Yeah game was crap Goldi and don't think we did much at all after the first 30 mins though thankfully we didn't need to given how bad they were.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Personally I didn't think it was a crap game. This is Championship, not Champions League and one should not expect top class football.
I thought for a champo game it was entertaining with plenty of forward forays from both sides and solid defending at both ends. Both teams suffered from not taking chances when they were available as evidenced by the fact that both keepers were suffering hypothermia by the final whistle.
The win was deserved as we were clearly the better side. It may not have been our best performance this season but I, for one enjoyed it and at least it wasn't embarrassing as some of the other televised games have been this season.

I didn't think Dicko was rubbish. He just needs a goal.
He kept their defence on high alert all game, worrying them with his pace. He hassled and harried, looked to run in behind and run the channels.
He was key in the goal, with good link up play with Costa and getting the cross in. As was Edwards, whose run across the near post and challenge on the ball forced the keeper to parry it into the path of Mason.
Dicko made one bad decision, when he hit the shot straight at the keeper rather than squaring it to Costa. That was all due to him searching for a goal, which is clouding his judgement slightly when he is in those positions and causing him to snatch at things. He just needs one to go in off his backside.
Other than that he looks sharp and lean. If we get rid, he will undoubtedly come back to haunt us.

We are playing as a team now as we certainly weren't under Zenga. And in recent games have looked like we can be more than a match for any team in the division.

most agree dicko shouldn't be first choice striker right now HWHM,
but we also recognise there isn't anyone else in the squad to replace him that's gonna score a load of goals either. we need a new striker, as DJ says, to replace gladon and give us four to choose from. ideally, someone who can get us 20 a season playing as the lone front man because that is the system PL wants to play in.
but it is worth remembering, for those who have been overly harsh on dicko yesterday, that he did set up the only goal of the game with his pace and a decent cross...so not completely useless.

odd to me that there's a sense of negativity from some fans over yesterday's game. it was a local derby, we outplayed the opposition (a team a few places above us, that had been on a decent run, and with a much more expensively put together squad than most of ours). we kept a clean sheet - again! - and restricted villa so much that they failed to register a single shot on target.
for the first 20 minutes we played some lovely slick attacking football, and although we slipped back into playing more on he break later on, we always looked the more likely to score.
it feels like some of the criticism is because wolves didn't win by a much bigger margin, and some is because we didn't play like Barcelona. the former is a little bit of a concern going forwards but I still see us improving and starting to score more goals once the front three get sharper. and the latter is a little unrealistic this season...maybe next?
there's also the possibility that some of the negativity is because we won so well with batth, stearman, edwards, dicko, price in the side? i'd hope that's not the case but it wouldn't be the first time in here that people would rather be right about their own preferences and hobby-horses than celebrate a good wolves win.
sometimes we just have to accept that there are other ways to win and other roles for players to fill. I've been pretty outspoken in the past about coady, who I do not rate at all as a CM and who seemed like a massive waste of money at £2m. but he had an excellent game at RB yesterday and I am happy to see him in the side right now even though it goes against what I've said before. he is reminding me of wardinho at the moment, he's never going to be a natural top class full back but his fight and solidity is earning him a place now ahead of more natural defenders, and although it means me accepting that he's been proving me wrong, long may it continue!

Yes he runs a lot and most of the time in the right areas, I don't think he lacks effort or athleticism.
While the majority accept him as just out of form, Halfy can see hat he simply isn't good enough at this level and has no place for sentiment
I'm sure PL will address this issue sooner rather than later and we will see a sudden improvement in points

but halfy...who would you replace him with from the players we currently have available to us?
and I disagree. dicko is good enough for a team at this level. he just isn't good enough right now for the team and style we play. that doesn't mean we should ditch him completely as we still need to field subs and have people in the squad to cover injuries. for us to get rid of dicko altogether we'd need to have four better strikers, and at the moment we don't have any.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
David Edwards - "In the first half he was Wolves' lynchpin, breaking up a high number of Villa attacks and setting Wolves in motion with quick passes to the four attackers ahead of him."
Edwards is certainly becoming Mr Dependable

The result was great but that was without doubt our worst game with the ball this season, wasteful doesn't even come close to describing it, woeful stuff which meant we had to rely on solid defending to get the points against a team offering nothing.
Loads praising Price and he even got MotM on TV but yet he himself said it was easily his worst game of the season.
As is generally the case with fans, I think the result clouds judgement, we have played much better recently and lost.
If we play like we did yesterday against a better side we will struggle big time.

In my humble opinion Dicko is far and away the best striker we have at the club. He was the best we had when he had Afobe as a partner and the only thing that has changed is that as a result of a year out he has misplaced his shooting boots. I think he would benefit from being loaned out to a div 1 club for the remainder of this season and come back next season full of confidence and full of goals. To sell him now would be a big mistake as we could not replace him for anything like the amount that Fosun are prepared to make available right now.
Oh and here's some bad news for our agenda ridden member from Florida, I am prepared to bet money that Stearman will make the move from Fulham permanent in the summer and come back home where he belongs

                      Misquote of the day:
"yet he himself said it was easily his worst game of the season."
What he actually said was that it wasn't his best game of the season which is not the same thing at all.

Dicko was our most important player for a few seasons, even ahead of Sako, results highlighted this many times when one the other was out, we compensated for Sako but rarely for dicko.
Sadly he is now in that desperate mode and needs a goal big time, but we can't wait forever and I would play bod right now instead but absolutely we must not give up on Dicko yet.

How long will you stick with him until you think, enough is enough we need to score goals ?
Remembering games like QPR, Cardiff, Wigan etc where we've created chances but come away with nothing because we can't score for toffee !

most agree dicko shouldn't be first choice striker right now HWHM,
but we also recognise there isn't anyone else in the squad to replace him that's gonna score a load of goals either. we need a new striker, as DJ says, to replace gladon and give us four to choose from. ideally, someone who can get us 20 a season playing as the lone front man because that is the system PL wants to play in.
but it is worth remembering, for those who have been overly harsh on dicko yesterday, that he did set up the only goal of the game with his pace and a decent cross...so not completely useless.

odd to me that there's a sense of negativity from some fans over yesterday's game. it was a local derby, we outplayed the opposition (a team a few places above us, that had been on a decent run, and with a much more expensively put together squad than most of ours). we kept a clean sheet - again!

I'm not saying the other options are better, although I'd rather see Mason / Bod up top.
My point is that folks are saying Dicko just needs to have one cannon off his backside and he'll settle down on a good run..........Halfy says, bollax will he

I read he said his worst game of the season. Either way it wasn't a MotM game from him but yet that's what he got. Very poor by his standards.
