Wasn't a foul. All eyes on the ball and his arm hit a stationery bellerin because he was too late to jump up and challenge.
I can only assume you have not played football at any level geez. It wasn't a foul. And he headed it as his arm come out not after.
I must say I thought he could have been a little more impartial on his comments about the fan with the banner. I didn't see it at the time, but I assumed the fan was trying to physically assault Wenger from Neville's reaction. Just a banner, who cares? Are they not entitled to voice their opinion in that way?
I dont worry about the media so much these days. The Metro ran a story that Wengers view of the game was blocked by the Chelsea fan in front of him, but then posted a picture with bloke in front of him standing up. Of course his view will be blocked then.
The producer had a word in his ear.
Following on the back of Mason, the concern is that there is a problem in the game - which would definitely affect Sky.
It was a shocking incident. Alonso hits Bellerin flush in the cheek.
Same kind of thing happened with the Hazard goal. Redknapp correctly pointed out that Coquelin should have brought him down straight away. Like Matic had been doing all game.
Producer had a word and next thing you know its Goal Of The Season.
Even Souness kept quiet.
Gary Neville should never have got back as a pundit after badly flopping as a manager. It's a bit like asking Gazza for advice on how to stay sober.
Okay so lets keep our eyes on the ball but if you break someones skull with your elbow while you are doing it - everything is fine.
Even Conte was laughing at the joke of the English game.

So when people go up with a high boot and eyes are on the all, it shouldn't be a foul.
Baffled with the fact that no one else has said anything about the Alonso goal. If that arm hit the goalkeeper rather than the defender it would have been a foul

To be fair I absolve the ref of any responsibility as in real time it appears as if alonso's arm hits bellerin at the same time as he connects with the ball.
what I found weird was neville totally ignoring the possibility that bellers could have been impeded so he could go on about arsenal not being physical enough.
They also didnt mention the fact that Bellerin was clearly on trouble with a head injury and Atkinson delayed letting the medial team on. refs are required to call for immediate treatment for serious head injuries and he is not medically qualified to say that wasnt when a player is clearly struggling.
Sky producer : "Please make it go away. Talk about something else. I know lets look at Conte behaving like an idiot."
ollie, like a little brother complaining to their mum
The reaction to the incident was a little strange from both pundits and fans.
I did expect more debate around the issue. For me the decision is a 50-50. I believe it could have been given as a foul, as he did elbow him in the face. But the reality is that people raise their arms as they jump, nobody should be expecting footballers to jump like pencils.
The decision should have debated more, because it obviously had an effect on the game, and it can be looked at in multiple ways.
Having said that, the Arsenal fans reactions have been over the top. Some have been furious at Alonso for challenging for the ball. I think most of this outrage is being used as a excuse for the performance to be honest.
Yes, Arsenal can feel unlucky that Alonso scored, but the fans need to question why Walcott doesn't track Alonso and why Bellerin had to challenge both against Costa, and Alonso when there were multiple players around who should have reacted to the danger.

If it's your team scoring it's ok, if against you you'd be at least a little miffed. Personally I would have disallowed it for a foul.
Bellerin could have protected himself by leaving his arm extended in a raised position aimed towards Alonso although I'm not convinced he was aware of his incoming challenge.
Contes' amusement at the goal standing said it all and he said only in the PL would it have stood. None of the other main European leagues would have allowed the goal to count.

You shouldn't be baffled as it wasn't a foul.
Both players were only watching the ball, both players only went for the ball, both players did exactly the same physical movement of raising their arms to get elevation, Alonso was higher than Bellerin and that is why Bellerin got caught.
If two players go to head the ball and there is a clash of heads no one says it is a foul. This is exactly the same thing in that when two players challenge for a header there is a risk of contact.................guess what, it is a contact sport.................the sooner Arsenal start realising this then they might start winning titles again.

Wow , you certainly know how to take a manager's comment and rewrite it in a different context. A future in sports journalism beckons.
However, for those interested in the truth, Conte actually expressed bemusement that anyone had even queried it foul. He said that in England it would never be a foul, maybe in Italy, but in England never.
What next, they keep tackling us sir, make them stop.
That was the line against United of old and one poster described Herrera as Uniteds new hatchet man this season ffs the boy is 10 stone soaking wet.
Well beaten yesterday and maybe Bellerin should have used his arms for leverage. He was not knocked out but off balance, caused him to fall flat on his back and bump his head, the type of injury that kids get in playgrounds every day. Get tough.
"He's absolutely battered him" - Gary Neville.
The whole reaction to the incident was remarkable. The bias against arsenal and bellerin from the commentators and pundits and subsequent regurgitation from fans was a classic case of subconscious influence. A real life version of emperors new clothes. Literally everyone was swept up by it. I think it's mainly down to a dislike for arsenal and admiration from the admittedly fantastic Conte.
Alonso clearly connects with bellerin and knocks him out before connecting the ball with his head. It's a definite foul, I can see why the ref didn't give it because you needed a replay to see elbow came first but once the replay was offered Tyler and neville reaction was disgusting. If you kick the ball and go through a player first before hitting the ball it's a foul. No arguments. Same should apply to the much more dangerous elbow to head.
It is fascinating how little care is given to head injures in football, it's sad to say but it till probably take a serious incident for it to be prioritised. Even Mason last week didn't cause the ref to rush to the player this time. Bellerin was literally twitching on the ground and landed with his hands in the air line a plank of wood.
Unfortunately the anti wenger sentiment means there's not as much outcry from arsenal fans who will take any excuse to get on Wengers back so this whole reaction will go unchallenged and written of as wenger being biased.
