I once had a pair of George Best school shoes, his image carved into the sole.

However, I digress, pair of black plimsolls for me.

And PE in your vest & pants ?

I used to have a pair of (Tuf?) shoes with animal paw prints on the soles

I've had sambas in the past until I discovered adidas torsion in navy and of course black and white.

So comfy.

Ang can you remember those Tuf shoes with a compass in the heel? How pointess was that. If kids that age were lost, they probably wouldn't have a map, not know how to use a compass and have to hop.

Bob Wilson used to advertise them with the slogan, "what more could a boy want from a pair of shoes?"

You need a list Bob?

My favorites when I was growing up as a kid were Mitre and Gola. Bought from Wakefields in Mansfield. 😀

Our PE teacher would do a pants inspection by looking down the front of your shorts. If you had pants on he would get you to take them off there and then.

Still available. Look to have been updated, the ones I had had canvas heels that would come off if you did a tight turn or fly off if you kicked a ball.

Which prison is this teacher in now Iwas.

We had that rule, remember running Xcountry in heavy snow in just a T shirt, shorts, socks and plimsolls. My legs were like corned beef when I finished.

I imagine he's dead with amount of roll ups he smoked. Looking back he was your stereotypical paedo.

I remember those cross country runs well. Hated them. Character building apparently.

I was always 3rd fastest cross country in my year - until suddenly in the fourth year, the two bigger, faster runners dropped off and I was first.

Only some time later I realised that they had discovered Girls and I was still trailing.......

New Balance or Asics these days 😎

comment by Rameses (U7190)

Sorry but you can shove your panties del oro, new balance, asics or whatever. Sambas have stood the test of time. Ooze quality with simple understated styling, they say the wearer has a couple of quid as he can knock about in a pair of £50 trainers but doesn't need to rub your face in it.

posted on 25/2/17

Well, if it floats your boat, Rameses

I have Samba: I've not been without a pair since the late 80's.

Fashions come and fashions go but Samba will always be acknowledged and respected. I'd go as far as to say I'd be predisposed to getting along with new folk if they were wearing Samba when I met them, but considering Iwas and Rameses' endorsements I can now see that they're for everybody, including that pair of kn0bs.

And I always thought we might hit it off

Sounds like having Sambas is a bit like keeping a pet ?
