Man City Have Already Released Four

"In my opinion. Half of the players released by Man City would walk into Arsenal's first team, where as the dross that we need to get rid of wouldn't even grace Man City's reserves."

This statement is a bit of a stretch don't you think?

Would Ramsey, Walcott, Gabriel, Giroud, Iwobi, Coquelinor or Gibbs get into Man City's first eleven?

Conversely Yaya Toure, Jesus Navas and Eliaquim Mangala could arguably get into our current squad.

Never mind walking into Arsenal's first team, half the players City are releasing have already walked OUT of Arsenal's first team.

So there squad is that much better than ours and we were three points behind doesn't that make Wenger a much better manager than Pep They had the same squad overhaul last season and were gonna walk the league according to most on here

People like you who say that we were only three points behind Man City and one point off of a champion's league place don't get it . You've been blinded by finishing top four for over two decades and see it as a minimum requirement. Don't be fooled, the real number you need to get into your head is that we were eighteen points behind Chelsea. We were not even in the same league as the eventual winners.

Looking form the outside , Am afraid I have to agree with Arsene. You have a strong squad . The issue is Arsene himself with his outdated and stale methods . The better teams these days have implemented the press and are a collective with a good work erhic.
Poch or Conte would have won the league with your squad I have no doubt !

Not defending Wenger but just playing devil's advocate: you could argue that Wenger has no choice but to say that about our school. Lets not kid ourselves - its going to be difficult for us to bring in a lot of better players this summer compared to city, so we will probably have no choice but to keep most of last year's squad.

You have a valid point but Wenger has been negligent in his duties by allowing a number of key players (and average players) to run down their contracts. He is now caught between a rock and a hard place and has to keep certain players on side with statements like "this is the best squad that he has ever had at Arsenal .....what? We can all see it. I'm sure you knew last year that Giroud wasn't the answer and that we needed a clinical striker. We went many seasons with substandard goal keepers before one literally fell into our laps in the the form of Cech. How long is he going to allow Walcott to fraudulently ply his trade? The man is ether blind or unfit to manage our club. Wenger is always one or two players short of what is needed. He then promises that changes will be made and the same thing happens again.

If it's not loyalty but fantasy that drives Wenger, surely the reality of being unsuccessful for the last 13 years should tell him something about his dream?

To start off, this argument is moving the goal posts. You can't say something about City's reverses and then change it into their starting XI. Secondly, what if whoever you named fits into the mold of what Pep likes in his players? Arsenal has players suited for the Guardiola's "put the ball on the ground pass it to the other side" mantra. Lastly, you were talking about released players. Mangela and Yaya are still at City last I checked. The players they did release aren't getting into the Arsenal team. Maybe Sagna but even that's a big stretch.

Arsenal is lacking a true leader in the side. Someone who can step up on big occasion and add a bit of grit into the side. Thought Cech was one but he just looks like he's playing for a pay cheque. Alexis is the closest thing to it but he doesn't look like he wants to play for y'all anymore.

From your last post I'm going to assume that you didn't read the article that I attached to my article in which Pep has begun by releasing four players but up to 18 player's contracts are up for review.

Secondly, I gave examples of players that are currently in our first team that (in my opinion) would not make their reserves. I could go further and add to that list the likes of Chambers, Jenkinson, Debuchy, Sanogo, to name but a few, who are still picking up a wage at Arsenal but need to be released pronto.

Thirdly I was making the point that our "deadwood" players would not get into their reserves whilst a fair few of their released players would get into our first team.

This is not moving the goal post, it is simply establishing the point that there is a gulf in quality of the players and a gulf in aspirations of the managers in question.
