Just been looking at how Ligue 1 and 2 do relegation and promotion now, as one of the play off games is today.

In Ligue 2, 4th and 5th play a one game play off to decide who plays 3rd in the semis, then the winner of that plays 16th in Ligue 1 in the ‘final’ to decide who plays in Ligue 1 next season.

Quite like the idea of rewarding the third placed team when it comes to the play offs, but giving the team from the league above a chance in a relegation play off will never sit right with me.

Serie B have done it much better because there’s no relegation play off.
