Miki and Mata are not irreplaceable. In fact I'd say our under performing attacking players has hampered us a lot over recent years.

Zlatan got 26 goals by Easter time last year and then got injured. He'd have probably got 30 plus had he stayed fit. The supporting players were very very poor. It' why we came 6th.

Mata is a terrific footballer but the problem I have with him is that defenders know he'd not going to beat them for pace or skill. He's so reliant on being able to pick out passes from nowhere because of his real lack of pace. When he's not doing that, he's not really offering us much.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eh? He brings an awful lot more than that.

He's our best forward at finding space and, barring Lingard maybe, creating space for others. He makes excellent early and late runs which put him in positions to take attempts himself or create for others.

He tracks and covers well despite his lack of pace. Above all maybe, he's a brilliant outlet for the defence and midfield when we need to get out, finding space helping us to keep possession or happily receiving the ball under pressure. He has maybe the best touch of all of our players and rarely misses a pass.

He's hardworking, consistent, a quiet leader, experienced, intelligent and professional. His head never drops.

He's a brilliant player to have in the side.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed Lingard's little hip shove to make room on the bench for the player who's just come off.

Wouldn't get in most of the top teams in Europe.

He's a good footballer and very clever but the way you described him above puts him way way way above what he truly is.

Out of KDB, Silva, Coutinho, Hazard, Ozil, Eriksen I'd say he's the worst. Doesn't mean he's a bad player because he isn't it clearly but he's not top drawer.

Ozil has shown that his head can drop when things aren't going right. Mata on the other hand has a steely determination and just keeps on going.

As I said previously, I am not against the Ozil signing as such. But it does annoy me how so many of our fans belittle our existing players to justify the purchase of the next new shiny player.

There's no crime in not managing to match KDB, Silva, Coutinho or Hazard. They're all world class players.

I just don't see how switching Mata for Ozil improves us. Switching Mkhi and Ozil, if Jose is to persist with Mkhi at number ten, well, maybe. If we could sell Mkhi on for £30m and bring in Ozil on a free, that might end up looking like good business.

That said, I'd much rather we were back to a three man midfield including Mata and buying a top class RW than persisting with a two man midfield and number ten.

I’m not a big fan of Ozil but if Mhki doesn’t buck up his ideas then I wouldn’t be against this deal.

I don't disagree; but I wouldn't suggest Ozil is one of them.

And there are other positions we need to strengthen before looking at the area of the pitch Ozil performs best in.

We don't necessarily have to be aspiring to that level. Not every player needs to be world class. In 1999 we had a world class team, but few world class players

While I agree it should always be team ahead of individuals, it's also true that even since then, the top talent has become even more hoarded by a small number of super-rich teams.

I just don't think playing a player like Ozil in a midfield with Matic and Pogba would work too well. They won't conmbine to cover each other's weaknesses, that's the big issue for me rather than it being about replacing Mkhi and, or, Mata.

Those two have often played on the right under Mourinho, so replacing them with Ozil to play through the middle or on the right isn't the best idea as far as I'm concerned.

We need a proper right winger. And an upgrade on Fellaini and Herrera in the centre of the park. Ozil doesn't solve these problem areas (that's without mentioning the left wing and full backs).
