BoJo won't be attending todays COBRA meeting about the heatwave as he's attending his own leaving party at Chequers.
I imagine most at the meeting are more than happy as they won't have to hear the PM answer every question with a reference to Brexit or Covid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep.
No doubt it’d be much hotter this week if the UK was still in the EU or the COVID vaccine programme hadn’t gone so well.

Will be interesting to see if there’s any shift of votes between Truss and Badenoch now, and which of the two the hard right of the party eventually decides to round behind.
Strategically, you’d think that Labour would be delighted with Badenoch and happy with either Truss or Sunak. Given Tugendhat looks out of it now, the only real threat in 2024 should be Mordaunt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think you underestimate the power of incumbency.
If lets say, Sunak is able to get inflation under control by then, the electorate will reward them. It always works like that.
Labour probably hope for a Truss or Mordaunt and so a very slow recovery if any.
when winter hits later in the year, i think there will almost certainly be civil unrest

Even if he does manage to get something of a grip on inflation over the 12 months from entering office, he isn’t going to be able to deal with the wider issues with the economy (sluggish growth, wage stagnation, cost of living and household debt, increasing inequality) by the election.
Unlike Truss and Badenoch, he’s at least economically literate, so he won’t start making tax cuts left, right and centre, cut public spending or rip up the NI Protocol.
But it’ll still be too easy for Labour to attack his support for Boris, his ‘failed record’ on the economy (rightly or wrongly) and the fact that he’s a billionaire whose wife worked to ensure she didn’t have to pay tax in the UK.
I hope truss wins just because it’ll be hilarious with her as PM

Because polling is telling us, repeatedly, that the electorate - on the left, in the centre, and even on the right - is actively turned off by the phoney War on Woke.
People aren’t buying into the nonsense; and if the Tories make it a key element of their campaigning and policymaking whilst working families struggle to pay their gas bills and continue to see their wages plummet in real terms, they’ll (rightly) punish them.
