And don't forget the political implications of a Palestinian state create other problems

Would Israel still be obligated to provide electricity and water?

If Hamas launch rockets into Israel from an independent Palestinian state is that a declaration of war? How does NATO respond?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Since when was Israel a part of NATO? And I’m pretty sure Hamas is not gonna exist if Palestine are given statehood. Fatah need facking off as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Israel is "a major non-nato ally" it's not a member but it's still used as an ally for regional security

Hamas won't just stop existing if Palestine becomes a state

And crucially, would Israel still be providing power and water to an independent Palestinian state

I'm not saying this because I don't think Palestine needs to be it's own state and certainly not saying Israel would owe it anything. But just recognising a state without considering the implications and how they're resolved is just empty words
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I believe there is a river that runs between Jordan and the West Bank where water runs. Been songs written about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are plenty of fresh water supplies in the West Bank. Unfortunately all are under the control of Israel for their benefit.

No reason at all why a Palestinian state couldn't create and manage their own energy and water supplies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think they can manage but will need a lot of outside investment and cooperation from neighbouring states to create that kind of infrastructure

It has to happen of course but recognising or demanding a state does little without the rest

I thought our Kemi's response wasn't much better than Bibi's tbf.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
She’s a facking bigger Zio than Bibi
----------------------------------------------------------------------
She remings me of when The Apprentice jumped the shark in TV terms. When the contestants went from being credible actual people to reality TV savvy idiots hoping to eventually.make the jump to Love Island.

Don't know why.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's a pretty good comparison.

She has zero views of her own and no morals.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought the same about most of the former Tory cabinet & PM's. It feels like they turned running the country into the Apprentice. I think:

Rees Mogg would go out in week 2 because they wouldn't let his nanny in the house and he couldn't hack the faux 4am wake up calls and 15mins to get ready.

Hancock, would slime his way to the latter stages only to be literally hung drawn and quartered at the interview stage by Claude.

Truss, a late contender who crashes the budget of the show on her week of being PM then being asked/told to leave.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hancock would've been the one where every member of his team turn on him in the board room after they lose a task.

Truss would make it to the semi-final, only to be told by the business men and women as she presents her Tufton Street business plan that she's a stark raving bonkers fckwit lol

Yeh definitely. Both needs to happen. I think the argument is what should happen first, and I don't see a problem with recognising a state first.

I think the problem I have is that for too long there's been lots of talk without any action. And part of the reason for that is because everyone always says we need x, y, and z happens. That for me has always stifled, dare I say conveniently, for the status quo to continue. So anything that moves it forward is better than nothing.

Palestinian activist and journalist Awdah Hathaleen, who helped make the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Land, has been murdered by an Israeli settler in the South Hebron Hills.

Footage of the incident shows extremist settler Yinon Levi firing his gun during an attack on the Palestinian village of Umm al-Khair. Levi, who is sanctioned by the European Union for perpetrating and inciting violence in the West Bank, was questioned by Israeli authorities but has not been charged.

There are 144 countries at the United Nations assembly that have already declared their support for a two-state solution. Europe is finally coming on board; Ireland, Spain and Denmark last year - France, the UK and Italy this week.

I wonder whether the following would work. Would genuinely like to read holes picked in this:

Palestine becomes a UN Protectorate with a Mandate of fifty years. Those 144 (and counting) countries each commit proportional long-term peace-keeping forces and administrators. Free and fair elections.

U.S. vetoes proposal. The end.

If it does happen, it would be how you enforce the peacekeeping side of it.

To be honest this isn't the immediate problem. Before any of this happens, the biggest obstacle will be agreement on borders. For this to happen, like it or not, you have to talk to militant Palestinian groups and get them on board.

Current tsunami warnings have been triggered by a violent earthquake measuring 8.7 magnitude that struck off the Russian coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula at midnight last night.

This earthquake is considered the most severe in the region since 1952, with its epicenter located at a depth of 19.3 kilometers and approximately 136 kilometers from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in eastern Russia, raising fears of widespread repercussions across Pacific Ocean coastlines.

Oh dear

At least this time the tsunami warning was immediate. Shows we have learned from the previous tragedies.

I think you’d get them on board if you told them they could have the 1947 partition plan borders.

It’d still be giving up half of their pre-Nakba territory; but based on what they have now, it’d be a massive win.

You know full well that's not going to happen. They'll be lucky to get the 67 borders.

They can get them on board by including them in a negotiated settlement. I have to correct myself in my response to Beebs post. Remember the Oslo Accords didn't commit to borders but stated they would be agreed within 5 years. You'd need the same approach again but this time have an agreed Palestinian delegation and decision makers that represents all Palestinian groups as much as possible.

Its gna take something like that for sure, clearly the Arab countries couldn't give a fack about them, when they do pipe up it seems more cause they're anti Israel than actually giving a sheite about Palestinians who get facked from every angle. The UN has to step up big time, hopefully these caants committing war crimes/terrorism are held accountable too and those funding/supporting them to do so but thats unlikely.

I couldn't read beyond the firewall but got to this...

"Taken as a whole, companies are quietly making progress on their climate goals."

So are they reporting, that despite companies reducing some of their climate change business ventures they're still getting on with going green behind the scenes?

“Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia’s largest buyer of ENERGY, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to STOP THE KILLING IN UKRAINE — ALL THINGS NOT GOOD! INDIA WILL THEREFORE BE PAYING A TARIFF OF 25%, PLUS A PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE, STARTING ON AUGUST FIRST."

Something interesting and dare I say commendable from Trump regarding the way the world is circumventing sanctions on Russia by buying oil from India which has increased its crude oil imports from Russia from 1% to 40% and then refines and sells it on to Europe and others for huge profits, making a mockery of the sanctions which many countries seem to be complicit in.

Trump only cares about the fact that India isn’t buying American military hardware.

Yeh probably but if it means strengthening the existing sanctions then isn't that a good thing?

Will be interesting to see what these "penalties" will be... or if they even happen. We'll know either way soon enough.

Rightly so. I hope they overturn the ridiculous ban and embarrass the shiiiit out of this sorry government.

The suggestion that Palestine Action is a terrorist organisation is textbook Orwellian bullshiiiit.
