I rejected on the advice of my accountant a payment of 500BTC a few years ago.

Ouch... chances are you would have cashed them out long before any ATH though.

Still, £13.6m would have been ok

The irony it was a ja606 ad company wanting to pay us.

What I've learned over the last few years:
1) Expect extreme levels of volatility
2) Hold-On-For-Dear-Life (aka HODL)
3) Extreme volatility should reduce gradually over time

I don't touch my long term positions like ADA, this is mainly because I'm terrified of messing up fairly substantial holdings in what I believe could be $20-$50 a coin in 10-15 years. I have played this very safe and have just been earning Staking rewards since Summer time 2020 when Staking went live. In doing so I have missed a lot of opportunities to sell and rebuy lower but I don't regret that at all sitting at around a 10x return currently (although I have started trading a separate short-term position with ADA and other currencies to capitalise on these opportunities).

BTC marching on.

I sold my 5 ETH back in May and made about £150, they're now worth 3 times more.

I wrote trading and simulation algorithms for a ".com" in the late 1990s, then trade optimisation functions for a very big IB in 2007-2008 ish, as well as cross broker exotic instrument platform trading.

Watching the collapse of my algorithms in the late 1990s(in the .com crash, where before that predominately long had worked for years, thus giving an illusion of confidence), then the collapse of LTCM and the credit crisis in 2008. A complete unraveling of crypto could very well happen, unless the utility of a coin is demonstrated. ETH made the most sense to me.

No. lol, the account was concerned because our accounts are a single ledger then off book payments would cause HMRC major conern. Back then...what if we invoice and paid in BTC and BTC halves, should we pay tax on invoice amount? VAT is in £s that isnt adjusted. So it wasn't entirely clear how to handle things.

Losing Bitcoin was common when I purchased them at 27 cents as they had little value and we're a memecoin before they even existed.

I would read endless stories on 2+2 about people sending hundreds of coins to paper wallets, not realising they had a one time use.

I personally only lost a handful through my own stupidity but always justified it by thinking..oh it was only two quid. It's actually funny how insanely lucky I got with Bitcoin bearing in mind nearly all my mates are way smarter than me, and few took an interest back then.

I felt sick on a train once when a friend calculated what my stake would be worth a few years back if I didn't sell most of em around the 700 mark....the idea of rejecting 500 ....jesus. God I feel better now 😅

Even Doge is barking at the moon again!

I'm actually happy to see it recovering from the Pn'D. It's a daft meme coin, but always seen it as a lighthearted part of crypto... Whereas Ripple has always felt dodgy to me.

I had a little dabble on Doge at $0.032 last night.

Lads that can draw the market graph line thingeys

Are we heading for 40k btc again?

posted on 4/2/21

You don’t need lines or graphs to tell you that $37.8k-$38.8k has turned into pretty big resistance. BTC already had 3 massive rejections from that zone over the last couple of weeks and even had another rejection this morning that led to a 5% jump.

My guess is if that zone is broken we will see new ATHs. But a stronger rejection will see BTC back down at the mid $34k zone or even lower.

The latest rejection was bought back up pretty quickly and BTC is testing that resistance again so things are looking bullish in the short term 🤞

Hey y'all, I have a rather dumb question I've been wanting to ask regarding Cryptos.

Do you all see a risk behind the underlying technology (blockchains) where the continual advancements in processing units and other parts used in mining cryptos could make it easier to 1) create more crpytos (supply) and 2) create more opportunities to hack existing crpytos (security)?

People can create more cryptos, but not more of a existing coin like bitcoin. It's hard capped in the code, getting more is simply impossible unless the devs changed the rules, which no one would be interested in doing (and would create a fork anyway).

Bitcoin has yet to be hacked, the only thing that could change that is quantum computing, but there are already plans to make it quantum proof.
