Clattenberg - I let Tottenham lose title

that's not what he said

Those are really strange comments.

He’s saying he should have sent players off but he deliberately didn’t.

And that he went into the game ‘with a gameplan’

That’s outrageous for a professional referee to say.

He said he didn't send off players which meant he wasn't the reason they lost the title, he could have sent off 4

"But I didn't give them an excuse, because my gameplan was: Let them lose the title."

We lost the title, so his lenient approach meant players stayed on the pitch

If he had stamped his authority on the game early it may not have turned out that way. To say he had a game plan is really not what you would expect a professional referee to say. Do all refs have game plans? Changes the dynamic a bit.

If anything he's saying he helped tottenham

Clattenburg has alway been an anti Spurs caaaant

Didn't he disallow Pedro mendes' goal at OT in 2005?

He wears a rug as well

That's reason enough to ridicule him

It's probably BS. Said to keep his name in the English media like he seems to need to. Look at his tattoo's ffs.

True, he always was a self important tool.

Still though, stupid comments!

Very strange comments. Basically admitting players should've gone, but chose not to send them off.

posted on 4/12/17

He said he COULD have sent off 3 THFC players but didnt because he didn't want to give the players or fans an excuse for not winning the title.
If that is right then he is completely out of order as a ref, whether you get blamed for anything or not, is irrellevent, his job is to ref the match and do your job on the day. No bias allowed,

Clattenburg is a cuuunt and always has been , didn’t he the ref against United when Gomes had s free kick and Nani picked up the ball and scored.?

Absolute joke of a referee .

Isn't this match fixing? If he should have given reds and he didn't. The excuse was pathetic, the media will blame me. Tw@t

Seems like he is looking for attention

Well you’re supposed to referee the game, not the occasion or circumstances. We probably deserved 1 or 2 reds that day - Dier definitely - but he chose not to because he wanted to absolve himself of any blame? Ffs yet more weak refereeing, just like that bottling caaaant Coward Webb who got every big call wrong for about a decade and got rewarded for it.

Absolutely mental comments.

Implying he took a decision to not enforce the rules of the game, so to avoid criticism from Spurs fans

Crazy stuff. Never heard anything like it from a referee. Is he saying the criticism of his decisions (United-Spurs) influenced him?

Or is he just making excuses for a game he infamously lost control over.

An actual quote: “Some referees would have played by the book; Tottenham would have been down to seven or eight players and probably lost and they would’ve been looking for an excuse.

“But I didn’t give them an excuse, because my gameplan was: Let them lose the title.”

WTF

Clattenburg facked Spurs over on more than one occasion during his over rated career, the least he could do was let Erik Lamela get away with severing Cesc Pit`s hand

Something needs to be made of this. A referee openly admitting he had a 'game plan'. What the actual fack? That is quite something.
