Cilic cried in the Wimbledon final, it was embarrassing.

What's that got to do with anything?

Never gave him any probs in 2017, did give him some issues in 2016, but Fed was well below his best in 2016 and still won in 5.

Finally, I think Fed is more vulnerable in the quarters than in the final.

Some issues? Fed was 2 sets to love down at Wimbledon and staring defeat right in the face.

Never gave him any problems in 2017? They only met twice, first time Cilic was injured in Wimbledon final and then Cilic took Fed the distance at ATP, not sure what you are basing your comments on, but they don't really seem based on reality.

I meant he didn’t give him any probs in Wimbledon 2017 in response to you saying Cilic caused him all sorts of problems at Wimbledon. The fact that Cilic was 2-0 up and he still lost to a Fed playing poorly would not give me much confidence in him.

Berdych is very inconsistent but when he gets it right, I feel his game can cause Federer more problems.

Plus, I don’t think Cilic’s injury was particularly bad in the Wimbledon final, he let the occasion get to him and played poorly after a promising 3-4 games at the start of the match. I’ve seen him do it plenty of times against Murray too. Start well and then go missing. Anyway, a good win for him today, good luck to him.

As for the ATP Finals, 6-1 in the final set when Fed has already won his first 2 matches? Seriously.

Question I want to ask all tennis fans is that will Nadal ever win one more Australian Open in his life?He lost to Djokovic in the final, lost to Wawrinka in the final despite him being partly injured and lost from a winning position v Federer last year in another Australian Open final.

If guys like Zverev, Thiem and Dmitrov keep underperforming at slams and Nadal can stay healthy, he can win any slam. Same goes for Fed and Djokovic. The only time to be worried about them is if a new generation starts dominating slams and that doesn’t look to be happening any time soon.

So Chung makes it through in straight sets as we await our last semi finalist. Will Berdych be inspired by the 3 other guys who have made it so far? You'd think Federer will be too good for everyone but there's been so many shocks already that it's not impossible for another to happen in 1 of his next 3 matches.

Federer will win this comfortably now. Berdych's confidence will be shot after being broken whilst serving for the first set and then being outplayed in the tiebreaker.

As expected....no real challenge from Berdych even when facing Fed on an off day.

Hopefully the semis are good contests. Chung vs Federer is an interesting battle as Chung is a relentless runner and could frustrate Federer. Hopefully he puts up more of a fight anyway.

Cilic should beat Kedders but he's been in inspired form this week and does have good weapons in his arsenal. If he can match the level he showed against Dimitrov then he's got a chance.

Federer will win Australian Open 2018 easily now.

I am feeling sorry for Simona Halep right now.

What for?

First time winner guaranteed for the ladies.

Happy for either Halep or Wozniaki to win but reckon Halep will take it.

On the men's side, Edmund started slowly and although was improved in the second set, he's now 2-0 down and a break down. Looks like he's been slightly overawed by the occasion and unable to put the pressure on. Cilic to stroll to victory from here.

I think people underestimate how effective cilic’s game is when he’s on.

Edmund has dealt with pressure really well, kept his serve percentage up and with the ranking points will be seeded for rg if he keeps it up between now and then.

His issue here is the height of Cilic. He has very poor record v tall players, beating Anderson broke a streak of 6 defeats in a row v players 6’4” or over.

Cilic is a very good player and dictates points which is how Edmund likes to play as well. Cilic is obviously a superior player but Edmund's power on his ground strokes was down in comparison to how his average throughout the tournament. Perhaps a lot of that is down to Cilic getting on top and ensuring Edmund was defending more.

Either way, Edmund can be extremely pleased with his performance going into the clay season where hopefully he can improve his ranking even more on his favoured surface.

2 factors at play here. Edmund rarely faces a player like colic abc wins, his tactics for that sort of player need to adapt.

Secondly, he doesn’t play enough 5 set matches and so this has been a draining tournament for him, Cilic was in better physical shape by this stage.

Having said that, it’s been a great run, shoots up the rankings and gets good prize money.

What are the odds of him meeting Cilic again next in Buenos Aires?

I called Wozniacki to win it but even i am sure she would - especially earlier on.

Against Halep though, i backed Wozniacki 99 times out of a 100. Yes, it is always a battle ( and i enjoy Halep's attacking game more) but Wozniacki almost has her number.

You wouldn't choose either to serve a game if your life depended on it - Wozniacki should really have a better serve!

Similar to Fed vs Nadal in the early days from a mental POV.

A high quality match neither player deserved to lose and both players definitely deserve that slam - here is to hoping Halep goes one better in the FO.

FO is too soon for Serena to make a dent but if she comes through the HCs and does well, particularly at IW. Then Serena is my runaway favourite for Wimbledon.

Muguruza continues to disappoint me. She has the game to be no one for the next few years but her inconsistency doesn't seem to be addressed.

I wanted Kerber to win and when I made the comment because I was feeling sorry for Halep as Halep had lost two match points and Kerber was looking more likely to win the semifinal in the third set.Anyway,I would love to see Halep or Serena win French Open 2018 next.In men,it is already a foregone conclusion that Mr Federer will win 20th Grand Slam tomorrow.I will not watch it.I want Cilic to win though. That would be refreshing.

Well played both, good match. Congratulations Wozniacki.

Halep should’ve really won the French last year but I do think she will eventually win one.
