It has taken 180 minutes of football to score two goals and one own goal against a team in the bottom league in England, and some are saying it was a stroll in the park.

Sissoko wasn't that bad surely? Did more than Winks if I remember correctly?

You have to remember just because WE don’t rate a certain player doesn’t mean poch thinks the same.

Good selection, decent performance onto the next round where we’ll pick this up again

Rotation cost Spurs an extra game and a replay this evening. This game should have been totally unnecessary, and the whole squad could have had a week off, prior to the Arsenal game.

Rochdale could mean a couple of games as well, if this team plays.

Can never understand why teams want unnecessary extra games, when they have the ammunition, just choose not to play them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------You know that moment when someone counters your point so you just change to a different point to argue instead?

Rotation is an important part of top level football. Especially when you have such a big game at the weekend.

Your underlying point is obviously right Sizz cos we haven’t won a cup under Poch and some of his selections whilst juggling cup and league have been woeful.

A couple spring obviously to mind:

1) was facking fuming with the line up vs Dortmund in the Europa.

2) had a Europa match before the league cup final
With Chelsea and can’t remember what he did nowbut remember being p)ssed off.

3) Newport away - that is NOT how you rotate. Hopeless team with zero creativity.

Tonight, for me tho was the perfect line up and to a certain extent the team to pick was fairly obvious what with the timing of players returning.

Room for improvement from Poch in the cups for sure but I’ll forgive him almost anything tbh. He’s magic you know. We’re close. Had a final and semi final under him whilst qualifying for the CL. We’re nearly there. Let’s do that top 4 and cup double this season and see what we can do about that PL next when we’re back home.

Good post mate.

Rotation only makes sense if you pick a balanced line-up. Tonights lineup wasnt that balanced but obviously our quality was always going to shine through.

Playing 3 DM's & a back 5 is bad rotation, as is putting Son LWB.

This basically.

Carroll and Mason as a midfield two vs Dortmund away also.

He’s not perfect but he’s learning too.

Thought the team was very balanced bar playing a Right footed player as LCB.

The only problem is playing a target man when we don’t play that way.

Sometimes it's difficult to pick balanced lineups when rotating, though. Because certain players that give the team balance can be part of the rotation.

Fergie used to do it loads and it led to a lot of disjointed performances. But in general the rotation tended to prove effective over the course of a season.

But why play two games when you have the players to do it in one. Don't get it, never have. Spurs should never have had to play this game.

Was well balanced bar the front three. If you have a slow inside-cutting winger like Lamela you need two willing runners, otherwise every pass will look for Son like it did.

As we changed from a 433 to a 4231 with Sissoko on the right after about 30-35 mins we looked so much better

I know he was ineligible but I would have loved to see a front three of:

Moura Son lamela

Hands up if you’re dreading the run up to the Rochdale game when this ridiculous debate will happen all over again....

Did you see that missed header by Llorente? Wasn't a sitter (though the volley he missed was), but after his header goes wide you can see Rose on the left wing shaking his head in disbelief.

posted on 8/2/18

Did he

May not have been a sitter but all the people defending Llorente said we weren’t playing to his game, that was literally what he is meant to be good at

posted on 8/2/18

I 60% feel sorry for Llorente. 40% hate him.

Hate is strong. Had enough of him.

yeah he did. If you get a chance have a look at the highlights and skip to 1.35 and as his header goes wide Rose shakes his head. It looks more like a 'this guy is useless' shake than anything else.

I feel a bit sorry for Llorente but he's missed some sitters this season.

Are you drunk?

Completely justified in everything I said. An adequate performance against truly lowly competition, and we needed a fecking own goai to get in front.

Lamela & Eriksen the only ones who showed any quality and I would have had them both starting anyway.

Now YOU people who wanted Lorente & Sissoko to start justify THAT bull$hit decision,
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You what? Should have been 7-1 ffs. The gulf in class was so clear. And you wanted the first team out

I’m not wrong. Very rarely am.

What I do knows is, I clearly care about winning a Trophy a lot more than most of you do. (Sandy, Mighty and Hounslow’s not included)

I’ll never understand your nonchalant attitude towards it, but there we have it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The point that you are missing is that just because we named a rotated side doesn’t mean we don’t want to go through. We named a side capable of comfortably beating the opposition, while saving our main players for the next two games which are arsenal and Juventus. And we won at a stroll.

How can you possibly still think rotating wasn’t the way to go ? Crazy

Sorry mate but you’re chatting absolute rubbish. You’re more pleased about thinking you’re tight than us actually getting through. Fact is we are through, I really don’t care what the first goal was, we rested key players and we won comfortably. Well done Poch for rotating
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You people and your short memories.

We’re in February, towards the business end of the season, winnner takes it all.

Go hard or go home. Full strength in all remaining games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The players are humans. Not machines. They need to be managed.

People forgetting we should have won this at their place really!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We should have. And Poch named a side good enough to win it. The players were just absolutely awful on the day, as were the conditions.

Just back from Wembly, and that was dire. Sure Spurs won, but seriously play that team against anything other than a division 1 or 2 team, and they would get knocked out. They only looked any good when Eriksen and Ali came on.

Llorente and Sissoko, how bad we're they against a team in the bottom sphere of English football, they were nothing short of a disgrace.

Anyway on to Arsenal now. Expect nothing less than a win, seeing as most of the First XI had a rest. No excuses now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I know you’re not a advocate of rotation Sandy, but you state that you expect a win against Arsenal as most of the first 11 had a rest.

Surely that’s an admission that rotation is necessary to win more games. By implication we have more chance of beating arsenal because we rotated tonight, as you suggest in your last comment?

So Sandy went to Wumberley and saw the match.
How many in the stands, Sandy?
Was it 25,000 like you predicted?

posted on 8/2/18

The match I saw had a lot to be happy about - if you're a Spurs fan - and not very much if you're a football fan.
1. Some of our needed players are coming back - Rose, Lamela, Aurier and Alderweireld.
2. Son played a triffic first half. Without him I dont know what would have happened.
3. We dominated the possession and spent the match camped in their half. Hard for them to score like that!

But I saw some worrisome things too:
1. We didn't score much! That game should have been at least 4 -0 or 5-0. Admittedly their GK made some fine stops, I'll give our lads that much. But some of those chances should have gone into the net past anyone.
2. What to do about Ferando Llorente? He is a good player, still has the moves, very generous with his distribution, tricky, gets others into scoring positions..... BUT, when is he going to score himself?
this was the ideal match for him.
I'm really going to blame Levy for not getting a back-up striker in January.
3. When are we going to see Lucas Moura? Why not today?

Just 39,000, which wasn't to bad considering what was basically a reserve side.
