Investment can be buying equity or loaning - clearly that is the case. 30m?? No - not a chance.
Sadly i think your average football fan thinks investing means giving. And to be fair if rangers were making a profit then that's what it would look like - we are fickle and rarely focus on the return for investment.
Having said all that, king can suck my baws
King has invested millions. Not £30m but millions nonetheless. He bought shares with them and has provided soft loans.
The other shareholders have also invested millions. They have also bought shares and massive soft loans.
It’s all
Investment as it is used for either buying shares or for turn to equity as repayment is not really a tangible option.
Hope this helps.
Fwck I hate you Rangers. 😡

Yes the truth helps 👍
If folk are saying loans are investment, then I don’t agree. When they’re turned into equity, then that’s fair enough. But at this time, those loans can be paid back.
When he bought his shares as Rangers didn’t get any of that money-there was no direct benefit to them.
I understand the difference between investing and giving money to the club. I’m just querying what he has actually ‘invested’ in Rangers.
I’m not doubting he has loaned several million to the club-I think between him and other individuals it’s now around the £17 million mark-but does that mean that Close Brothers have also invested?
Nobody even replied to my point
Unless there was a Rights Issue that invited additional funds to be invested, there has simply been a transfer of existing share ownership. No new money 👍

I couldn’t understand it!
Well, we’ve been told over the years that Dermot can’t just fling money at Celtic due to other shareholders in Celtic
I was wondering if that would be the case at rangers?

Yes of course they can.
Be stupid without something back but yes it can be done. You could walk up and hand in £20 and just gift it to the club.
Hhhhmmm not what used to be the mantra on why Dermot didn’t just go out and spend 5 million in a player, but as I say, business stuff is largely over my head
I’ll take your word for it
I’m sure he had to apply for an exemption from the takeover panel due to underwriting a previous share issue. I would also think that any gifts would need to be declared. He doesn’t come across as the kind of guy that just gifts large sums away without getting a return on it.

As I say, I’m not sure on how it works but from memory Dermot wasn’t allowed to just gift money to Celtic and I was under the assumption the same logic would be applied to rangers

Loan investment is still investment. As is share purchase. If the loans allow a company to trade then by simple definition you are investing in it - you hope for a return by allowing it survival etc.
And the loans were cash obvs.
If anything, a soft loan could be considered exceptionally welcome investment- the investor is in effect 'gifting ' the amount that he or she would have generated by investing in another offer. Even savings interest return for example.
I don't like king. And I think the way he framed his original discussion on investment made it seem as if it was a gift of sorts. But he undeniably has invested decent sums in rangers. Pointless sums but decent ones
