This isn't anything to do with the actor though, she just turns up and is told what to say and do on set. With good writing behind her and if given a relatable, believable, fallible character to play with some actual depth she could have been great. No doubt. But she wasn't. Daisy Ridley has nothing to do with her character being crap.

Yes that's exactly what I just said lol. The writers are at fault. It's nothing to with the actor playing the part, they're just actors playing a role and being told what to do. Mark Hamill went on record saying that he fundamentally disagreed with every choice that had been made regarding his character Luke in the Last Jedi.
Daisy Ridley could have been great as Rey if they'd written her character properly but they did the complete opposite of that.

I dont even think the character is that bad ... biggest problem I have is she is very similar to Luke.... very similar behviours. The way her character was written and what they had her able to achieve and do was stupid as hell.
If the writers had changed the scenarios she is in and how she was able to overcome them to be more believable then it would hae helped.
But Rey, her mannerisms, her reactions etc really dont bother me, the problem is how the writers just magic her up a level every time she is on screen!!
My biggest problem with the actual character is she is a rip off from Luke.

Luke was a well written character who goes on an epic journey of self discovery and development. He starts out as a clueless farm boy who has no idea how to stand up for himself and turns into a wise Jedi master who stand ups to anyone over three movies.
Rey starts perfect and ends perfect. Straight away she can fly the Millennium Falcon even better then Han even though she's never flown before lol. There is no character development to speak of and she's the same empty shell at the end of the third movie that she is at the begining of the first movie.

agree, personality wise she is very similar to Luke IMO.

I appreciate many of the Star Wars films haven't been great but I do think it's basically impossible to make one that won't upset a large chunk of its fan base.
It's either too much of a copy of the original, or too radical in changing things. It's either too dependent on Skywalkers or not enough. It either moves too far away from the family saga by going to new worlds and characters, or it's too much of a soap opera relying on nostalgia.
Whatever you do you upset someone. Its not a place where you can make creatively distinct decisions.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
na not buying this... I didnt meet or hear a single SW fan that didnt love the first two seasons of Mandalorian. they showed that you can be original and if its done right the fans will love it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would add the Clone Wars animated show to the above point.
They can make good SW content, if they hire the correct individuals and let them have creative freedom.

Wonder if there's anything to these What If? Star Wars rumours.

Luke would have been out of the picture indefinitely, Han and Chewie would have continued just being smugglers, Leia would have been alone, the Empire would have continued to rule the galaxy and Palpatine would have lived.
Much like where we find ourselves at the beginning of Force Awakens anyway <fam> flan

Feige is a disgrace for rejecting the idea of a What if episode that combined the SW and MCU.

Can't be far off this actually happening regardless.

Wonder if there's anything to these What If? Star Wars rumours.
I'd be interested in what if Luke actually went to Tosche station to pick up some power converters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd be more interested in knowing how events would have unfolded, had Qui Gon lived and trained Anakin, away from the Jedi order.

My suggestion there was more humorous, but yeah there's a lot they could do with the concept in SW.

As in a string of abusive relationships? Hope not.

Tbf he did say films.
