HMRC are going to make you play topless next season, with names/numbers spray painted on...they will want to make sure that everyone knows they will have the shirts off your backs...

No doubt we are in the sheeite

When you have some clown who arranged deal with Micah Richards involved and he's getting a feckin great salary for doing nuffin.

Both Richards and Gabby should be ashamed - it's players like that who have destroyed the club. Gabby may have done a few good things at the start of his career, but how he can ever be considered anywhere near a legend for this club is beyond me given he has been on 60k for the past four years and done absolutely nothing to justify it.

Then there are players like Hutton who is probably on more than he is worth especially given his age, and players like Terry and Snodgrass were on big money for the Championship.

You cannot gamble the club's future away by trying to buy your way into the Premier League. Yes, we needed a clear out; yes, we needed leaders in (i.e. Terry) to sort out the dressing room; yes, we need to be in the top flight. But I'd much rather we had kept young players with sell-on values like Amavi, Veretout and Gil than the deadwood we continued to pay big money to each week to sit and do nothing like Richards and Gabby.

We have been badly run ever since Ellis left to be honest. Lerner did a few good things for a couple of years, but ultimately was responsible for us being relegated and becoming a laughing stock. Xia talked the talk but ultimately appears to have spent recklessly and made a lot of poor signings (McCormack, Hogan, Tshibola). We needed some big words to come out of the club to get the fans back on side, but ultimately that has backfired massively for him and he obviously hasn't been keeping a proper eye on our financial situation or he wouldn't have taken that gamble (or maybe he would, which is even worse).

I don't know what's round the corner but a quick-fire sale does not fill me with hope. I'm hoping Xia can get his money out of China and stabilise us. Unless the sale is to a wealthy Middle East consortium who have a proper plan to get us to the Premier League, then I'd rather we did not sell. But ultimately things do not look good at the moment.

Funny how City and Chelsea got away with spending way out of their means for years - someone up there clearly doesn't like Villa.

The players' salaries thing is interesting; we have been cutting back, surprisingly enough:
2015-2016: £93m
2016-2017: £61m
2017-2018: £39m
Big problem is it's still too high for the Championship, especially with regards to FFP.

After the departures of those whose contracts are up this summer, the wage bill drops to £25. If we also shifted out Elphick, Gardner, De Laet, Taylor, and Hogan the wage bill drops to £18m.

It's beginning to look more mangeable. But from here on the figures get complex. FFP annual allowed loss is £13m, sort of. But it can be more or less than that depending what our actual losses over the previous two years were. Then, over the rest of the club's business do we make a profit or a loss? There's an awful lot of figures involved.

My guess is that if we got rid of the above players we'd be in with a good chance of beating FFP. We ought to start looking at doing better than that.
