Italians just don't like the fact you can't bribe the officials anymore

He was pushed. Maybe not even enough to send him down. But enough to make it a foul. Therefore it's a penalty. Not even 1% of a doubt.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of people had doubts about it. Many thought it wasn't enough to make it a foul. Ex players, fans etc.

........................

Not only was he pushed he also got a high boot in the ribs for good measure.

IMO what made it worse for the defender was that the Madrid player was setting himself to head it and had stooped lower than normal which explains why he ended up on the deck. You can not go through a player to try to win the ball.

For it not to be a penalty, there would have to be no contact.

Anyone saying there was no contact after watching the replays of it is a lying sack of $hit, I am afraid.

I have only come across three posters who think it wasn't a penalty.

Stretty, Winston and TOOR.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He got the ball with his foot, it wasn't a high foot either. Some people think it was a foul as the player was pushed in the back putting him off his shot. I can understand that but personally I think the ball was getting away from him when the defender got a foot on it and he took his chance. The contact wasn't enough to make it a foul regardless.

Not enough of a push to make it a foul??
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well I don't think it was a push to begin with.

juve are used to getting every dodgy decision going in Italy

must have been a big shock for buffon to have that pen given

I also believe the referee had doubts as if he 100% believed it was a penalty, the defender would have been off.

After going through the back of the player.

This is a foul.

He went around the defender. If he went through the back people wouldn't be questioning the decision.

Well, it was, so your thought should be reserved for the bog, next time you have a crap.

Yeah. He didn't have the nerve to have a think about it. The crowd were baying for blood and he wilted.

I think he did but blew anyway as he didn't have the nerve and then didn't give the red as he wasn't 100% sure.

No idea what AS resident referee is but he thought it wasn't a penalty also.

Yet according to AS's resident referee, Eduardo Iturralde, it was the wrong decision. "The contact from behind wasn't enough," Iturralde said, "he shouldn't have blown for a penalty".

You are full of more $hit than a constipated elephant, TOOR.

I think it's pretty clear that it's a highly debatable one and there are cases for and against. It certainly isn't a stonewall penalty with no doubts as some are suggesting.

"It was not a penalty, no!" Maradona said when asked about the incident.

"When Ronaldo heads the ball, Lucas had to throw himself at it because he was next to Buffon, and he had Benatia coming in from behind.

"He did as I would do it too, grabbed his chance and threw himself over."

Marca said that more than 275,000 people voted on the website's Spanish poll, with 56 percent agreeing it was a penalty.

More proof it's a debatable penalty.

And according to Graham Poll who the rest of the world has heard of, he was correct.

Madrid just find a way to win , in the CL

it's our trophy, as Liverpool will find out soon enough

Rest if the world

Such ignorance. He's foreign so nobody has heard if him. The English man? Well everybody has heard of him.

Incase you haven't noticed there are no English referees going to the World Cup. It's got so bad with English referees that Collina is choosing a 34 year old with little CL experience to referee a high pressure semi-final. High pressure in hindsight of course. Collina may have thought that it wasn't going to be so close, with the score being 3-0 in the first leg and it would be a good experience for Oliver without much pressure.

He didn’t give a red because of the double jeopardy rule, he would have been wrong to do that.
