Would be nice to have a left back that offers something going forward.

The crazy thing about Ashley Young is he actually can cross the ball. Probably the best at it in the entire club. However by playing him on the left it means he has to cut inside to cross which will always favour the keeper and back 4.

Maybe he could take Valencia's position at rb as he can actually cross a ball. Only a short term fix I know but I think I'd rather have Young than Valencia.

That could be in Mourinho’s thinking judging by his comments about Young recently. I’d rather we sign a new right back as well but given a choice over Valencia and Young at right back I’d prefer the former for the reasons you’ve stated.

I think Alderweireld could be a huge risk too. His apps have gone from 55 to 33 to just 21 in the last 3 seasons. It's a huge drop in overall apps and I'm also surprised to see that Spurs apparently don't have too much of a problem of letting him join us should we give them £40m+.

Warning signs should be ringing there. It's a hell of lot of cash for a player with not long left on the clock and also who have fitness concerns.

Tierney is no way ready, he needs to do what Robertson did and go to a mid to lower end team like an Everton, Burnley for a couple of seasons then if he proves himself then to Utd or the likes

A new right back would be nice too. Heard good things about the Napoli man Hysaj who we're linked with.

2 full backs with a good attacking output could really improve this team more than people think.

It's a real shame our u23's are awful. There's not much waiting in the wings. Our u18's however just won the Northern league, sadly losing to Southern Champs Chelsea in the overall final. There's a wealth of very good prospects in that side. Galbraith in particular looks very good in midfield. Dare I say it but he even turns and moves a bit like David Silva but I'm not suggesting for a second he's going to be that good obviously but he looks a player for sure. Very comfortable with both feet too.

Anyone know why this Sandro chap has been left out of Brazil's World Cup squad?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Coach only wanted to take 2 lb's (understandably) and Marcelo is their number 1 and rightly so and the manager I think has said he wanted a more defensive option as the back up. Sandro definitely a more attacking left back than Felipe Luis.

Hysaj’s attacking output is no better than Valencia’s. Probably worse actually.

I’m not sure about Toby either. Big money for a player that may be struggling with injuries. He’s just the cb we need, his distribution from the back could really help us with getting the ball forward, but I don’t think cb as is big a priority as other areas of the team.

We've been linked to their left back too... Neither are any better than what we have... Hysaj isn't great attacking imo

Maybe you're right, just feels like there is a galactico style approach this doesn't feel a good fit for the club. When other clubs around us are spending less, buying better and playing for attractive football you can't help but feel a little aggrieved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This. It’s not worked. Stop throwing stupid money at expensive jigsaw prices and try and find ones that fit. Specifically key parts made in Britain that eill play for the jersey. . Teirney fits this. He’s very good, has a far higher ceiling, and has all the attibutes you want.

Shaw hasn’t worked out partly due to Jose, and partly because he was overrated to begin with and doesn’t have the intelligence. From what I’ve seen in teirney, he does, along with decent defensive and offensive ability.

Sandro is a very good player, but no guarantee he’d fit right in or suit English footy.

We should be trying to get at least a half decent British element to the team instead of continually looking elsewhere for stupid money. We ain’t chelsea.

Great player, but his injury record is a worrying.

Which means he’s tacked on as a summer signing.

His last injury was bad but before than his injury record is very good. I'm not sure why people keep saying it.

There's plenty of talent in the U23s, SE85.

As a side, they've been a mess this season. But that isn't because tree aren't some very promising individuals in there. The squad was ridiculously unbalanced, management has been pretty terrible, and I think morale suffered a lot.

He will remain at Juventus as Juventus would play hard ball with Man U like they did to Chelsea attempting to sign Alex Sandro last season.Otherwise,I would be furious if he did sign for Man U.I like him as a player.

They want Darmian. Should be fine. Cash plus player.
From what I heard, Chelsea didn't want to pay the fee they asked.

Signing him and Sandro would br a very clear indication jose wants to play 3/5 at the back.

Not ideal but if wing backs are given absolute freedom to attack then it could be good.

It isnt as though we have an out and out winger being replaced.

posted on 17/5/18

We have a team set up for wingbacks apart from the actual wingbacks which is kind of a big flaw I know.

Potential team:

-----------------Dave
-----Jones---CB?--Bailly

RWB----------------------------LWB
-------------Matic---CM
-----------------Pogba

-----------Alexis----Lukaku

I personally think Sanchez has looked lost on the left for us. Very poor indeed. I'd be tempted to play him just off Rom in a 352 and let him float about with Pogba the same. He's a goalscorer not a creator and he's too far from goal most of the time.

I know this may not get a lot of love but I think Darmian could be a good right sided centre half in a three. I think he's good defensively and he'd be comfortable enough if he was dragged out in the RB position during games.

Gary Neville was talking about it in the West Ham game about England in Euro 96 using him and Pearce in a back three as they were comfortable defending out wide as well.

It does seem he's going back to Italy but I wouldn't be too sorry to see him stay.

Yeah I get what you mean, he’s a defender first with little desire to bomb down the wing but who seems comfortable out wide if needed.

He’s a strange one, highly rated when we bought him and wanted by Juve. Maybe he just hasn’t settled in England and the style of play here, he’s not a particularly physical player.

Diafol,

That’s actually a good point. Probably Darmian’s best game for us was when deployed as the LCB against Chelsea. Can’t remember if it was the cup game where Herrera got sent off or the one where Rashford scores and we won. In fact the latter might have been a cup match. But regardless, not a bad shout.

Looking at the line ups I think it was the 2-0 game at OT in April 2017. The Rashford one.

I quite like Darmian defensively but, for him, a move back to get regular games could be what his career wants.

Next season I think Young could be used at RB especially in easier games where he offers more in attack than Valencia.

what's a easy game for us? the so called easy games are where we've looked like p00p this year
