Common sense prevails
==============
They gave Cech the number one shirt. Not sure they have any common sense.

I'd rather be snubbed by Arteta than snubbed by a manager with experience who has won things, wouldn't you?

Don't you think it's telling that a former club captain with 0 experience would snub us, he has no confidence in the board.

no, you can understand an experienced manager snubbing arsenal, especially with having no control of transfers, but arteta. Apparently Viera was even shocked about the lack of control in the job

I can understand someone without any experience snubbing for that very reason.

Wasn't Rodgers going to snub Liverpool at one point?

It would have been to crazy to have worked to appointment Arteta.

I'm glad this isn't the twilight zone.

Steady on now, he wanted assurances we would not give him

Best for both parties he didn’t take the job if that was a big deal to him

It is an amazing coincidence that the day after the Ligue 1 season finished Arteta decided to snub Arsenal and Emery became all but signed up.

If true, it is almost as if we were just respecting PSG and Emery and waiting for him to complete his assignment.

It is almost as if the papers are excusing themselves for last week and their insistence Arteta is the man.

People really think that Arteta snubbed us

The cynic in me wonders whether this was the plan all along, to leak info about a guy with no experience taking over so that, when Emery is hired (assuming that he is) then the appointment would be greeted more kindly rather than with disappojntment that we couldn't get Allegri or Simeone etc.

But i agree with the OP. While he's not my first choice, i'm reasonably satisfied with Emery if he joins and i will give him a fair chance before judging.

Yeah agreed what DJ said. They wouldn't have been talking to Arteta then get snubbed by him and sign up this Emery bloke all within a few days.

I don't know if its because I'm a gooner and not used to managerial appointments, but this whole thing seemed very public.

First, we spoke with Enrique and that didn't work out. Then Allegri and that didn't work out. Arteta seemed certain. Vieira and Henry suddenly were in the mix. And then Emery out of nowhere.

Nothing wrong with looking at multiple candidates, but it felt like the club was releasing too much information. It doesn't really sit right with me.

The counter argument is that this is how it should be done. Most other clubs tap up their manager behind close doors.

He is a good manager and I am pleasantly surprised and happy to see Arsenal got him as their manager.I would rather see Arsenal in a great football and financial position than Tottenham who I don't like much.

. I think it’s fresh to be away from Wenger dark times.

Hezzman thanks for being so irritated and I don't know you but why are you so angry at me?Did I appoint Emery when I might have got Allegri as manager of Arsenal?

Thanks Hezzman for showing your disdain and what are you doing on an Arsenal article?Aren't you trespassing in enemy territory?

Tbh who cares how it came abt. The fact is we now have a manager who can coach and also buy if necessary. Plays good football and is meticulous detail based. Also has the drive after the terrible oligarch experience.

Just looking at the dates they announced they were leaving:
Wenger 20th April
Emery 27th April

Lets not pretend that this was some master plan.

I think it is a stop-gap. Let's face it, we have more chance of going back playing CL footy by winning the Europa than finishing in the top 4 right now.
And obviously Emery knows how to win it.

Good appointment. Not sure what Arteta will make of it, I hope we haven't burned our bridges there. He was certainly under the impression he was the favourite.

Excited to see what Emery will do. We have an intelligent squad so they should be receptive to his meticulous instructions.
