The whole concept is Bull dust.
This progression towards a 48 team comp in 2026 too is a backwards step.

The best format was when it was just the four groups of 4, 16 teams in all. a three week comp, the best teams reasonably competitive, (There always was one or two a cut above the rest at any given time)
Now they just include teams to make up ever more group stages, usually most of which are a free ride 'through' for the more fancied teams.
It's no mistake only 8 nations have ever won the Trophy in the history of the comp. And there will be no new team added to that list any time soon.
