Building English Players at Arsenal

Bit this is the catch 22 situation. Yes we want to see young british players coming through, but fans also want to see us challenging for trophies.

In an ideal world, we give a few young players a chance and they hit tje ground running. But look at the amount of stick the likes of Wilshere, Iwobi (not english but young) Holding, and other young ayers have had over the years. And its not just us, all the top 6 clubs sre guilty of this to some degree.

Young players will inevitably be incknsistent, and being inconsistent normally doesn't win you trophies. Finding that balance between these two long term aims is extremely tricky.

I agree but it doesn’t seem to me any are coming through bar a couple.

Those that do we need to send on loan! The ones who have gone out on loan didn’t set the world alight did they? (Akpom)

Wilshere, Theo, Ox all flopped big time from their supposed potential.

Arsenal did try..unfortunately, for England...Its not just the club but a big systematic changes needs to be made from grassroots levels to achieve the levels of other top European clubs.

england haven't learnt a thing since 1966. The youth set up encourages long ball up an at em in your faces down the wings get it in the box football

not an ounce of a creative player in the entire squad. No one who can drop a shoulder, use the space or with the technical ability to make space and time in a packed midfield or in the final third.

even top scorer kane is cloven footed.
The last skillful player was gazza.

Arsenal have tried with the likes of wilshere but he was basically kicked off the park and told "don't hold onto the ball"

The coaches at all levels haven't progressed and countries like france belgium and croatia have caught up and passed england. ffs even denmark have a euro cup.

no sign of a modric, hazard, mbappe rodrigues anywhere near the england squad.....

this is why we have hardly any english players at Arsenal playing for england at the world cup...our football has been based on the continental model under wenger not push and run

Still likely to get the golden boot at the world cup. Hes a flat track bully. Does it against the likes of Panama and Tunisia but as soon as its the knockout stages he hasnt got the cajonies to do it. So a flat track bully nad a big game bottler.

AMN has to be on Southgate's radar. Can cover both wing back roles and both CM positions. Would have taken him to WC over RLC tbh. Hope he builds and gets a call up soon.

England could benefit from encouraging more young players to play and develop abroad. Would probably have more diverse skill set to choose from then. But it’s all a cultural thing. British people in general are never comfortable moving abroad. We should teach foreign languages much earlier in school.but Basically got a culture of arrogance mixed with laziness, thinking we’re better than the foreigners, and have no need to learn their language, as they can just learn ours. Shame, wish I could speak another language. Embarrassing when you travel abroad and find many people can speak multiple languages

I agree that Leon Bailey shouldn’t have been picked but I definitely disagree on the reason why he wasn’t!

Southgate said he’s not playing regular premier league football! What is regular first team football for a top 4 bundesliga team not good enough. What motivation to play abroad does that give

True. Only the 19 goals in 30 games for England isn't it and just about to claim the Golden Boot at the WC. If only he was as good at international level as top quality strikers like Owen or Rooney, we might have made it last the last 16.

I 100% guarantee you Kane will be England's all time leading goalscorer by the time his career is over
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah he might be but 95% of his goals will be against the likes of Panama, San Marino, Lithuania, etc

The same applies to all top international goal scorers due to the amount of meaningless friendlies and and poor quality qualifiers teams have to play. Kane has a great goalscoring record for England, has captained them to a WC SF and is likely to win the Golden Boot.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Assuming that he wins the golden boot at the world cup, Harry Kane will have achieved personal glory in each of the last 3 seasons, without winning any trophies at club kr international level.

Any other player that has had that level of personal glory has managed to win at least one trophy.

Is Harry Kane a team player?

Team players don’t choose personal accolades over team achievements.

Kane cares more about the golden boot than the World Cup hence why he chose to shoot not pass to sterling

He’s eligible for England I believe

posted on 15/7/18

He was?
Born and raised in Jamaica, played for their youth sides, went to Germany via Belgium.

Ah, just read this from Wiki:
Bailey was thought to have been eligible to represent England as he has two grandparents who have English passports.[15] However, he is not eligible to play for England as his grandparents were not born in England.[16]
