Passion on the Wane?

I remember being in my Ma's gaff watching united Liverpool, remember that horrible game when Masch got sent off, was pure chaos for us, united fans loving it, anyway my poor mother came in just as Masch was finally off the pitch asking me something and I told her to F off out of the room and stop wrecking my head.

So that was a moment when I realised I'm taking this too seriously, I did apologise to her at half time and explained it was Fergie's fault

It’s a common thing for many, regardless of which club they support.

52 and VC are older chaps and both claim to have family around them and yet they spend hours and hours on here talking mostly about United.

-

They don't need me to defend them, but I'd suspect their online activity at the outside of working hours and at the weekend is noticeably less. As is my own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good. Nobody was attacking them.

What was the point of this comment then:

"...both claim to have family around them and yet they spend hours and hours on here..."

..........

1. Most of the time I am on here is during work hours.

2. I don't take my family to work with me.

3. It is a United forum, what else do you want me to talk about.

I think it was more an attempt at showing their passion for football than an attack.

The top PL clubs nowadays are like having a sophisticated robot dog. They have the most advanced, sophisticated yet interchangeable (expensive) parts. Technically they are they are the most advanced dogs ever created. It is however not possible to love them as much as the black lab you had ten years ago who maybe farted a bit much.

Passion isn't just enjoying the wins. It's about hurting when we lose.

52 and VC are older chaps and both claim to have family around them and yet they spend hours and hours on here talking mostly about United. It therefore isnt inevitable that as we get older our passion for United will wane.

Our recent struggles to win major titles could therefore very well be the reason for Mud's lack of passion for United.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't think VC posts over the weekend at all normally actually.... It's a pass the time at work thing

And nobody said its inevitable passion is lost either

Losing normally sees me disappearing with the dogs for a couple of hours so nobody gets snapped at

Nearly sure you made a comment a few days ago about it just being a game etc.... Now you want to call people out on lack of passion after a defeat

Also... Re Mudd... While the guy can speak for himself and is more than capable in running rings round you... If i recall correctly he took a backseat from posting as often due to real life issues being more important... I'd imagine that has more to do with re-evaluating what's important to him than United not winning the league every year

(apologies Mudd if I've said anything inappropriate)

Good post and good replies by all except one particular window licker.

For me it is definitely more than the one thing..

As I have got older my priorities have changed. Getting my kids off to college has taken up a huge chunk of my free time for the last two years.

Also as some have stated, our performances have been so poor the urge to watch all the games I can live isn't there any more. If I can get a tee time I would rather play golf than watch us live. I will still tape it and watch it when I get back.

I don't sulk for four or five hours when we lose any more, more like half an hour and its done.

I wonder if the crazy fees play a part too. I'm friends with people who's clubs never win owt, who have also fallen out of love with the game... so can't level the glory hunter card at them.

For me, it is a mix of age, responsibilities, dull footy and a bit of disdain for football as a giant entertainment machine. I'd be interested to see my own reaction if we had a few years of major success while still playing dull football. If i became fanatic again, I'd know i am a glory hunter!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

One thing I've really grown to dislike are these stupid player reveals. anchez thing with the piano being the worst thus far.

Just give them a shirt to hold up and be done with it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I really hate the reveals and SKY ruin it with their transfer deadline day nonsense too.

Football appears to have lost its way in my humble opinion.

I remember the thread you wrote and was talking about it with my brothers. Normally we would be coordinating a trip to see the folks and a football game together.

That was what started the conversation, no one offered last year and they are closer to OT than I am.

We used to go see the odd Rochdale game too, but even that does not happen anymore.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

How so RDD? Please explain
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Work it out dude
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You made the post, explain what you mean RDD
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Your drop off in passion for United correlates with our lack of recent major titles, as is the case with glory supporters.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Or you could read the thread and see its about changing priorities, family issues, getting older and realising there's other stuff going on in the world
................................................................................

Well we are all getting older and have changing priorities but I see only 1 person saying their passion for United is gone
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Where is that person? Can you point him out?

I am pretty sure Sky won't be around much longer, as far as football is concerned. All they have left now is a few PL games, and they still think they can charge extrortionate amounts. They will go the way of Woolworths and BHS as they fail to move with the times. Even this season has seen a move towards online platforms, with Serie A and La Liga UK broadcasting rights. Hopefully there is a move towards football being more accessible again, as the big companies become the ones who bear the costs in a more competitive market, not the fans.

We just had a third child and I am at that stage where the kids are starting to grown and develop and I make sure I am there for them.

Pretty much do not sulk at all and watch games with a clinical detachment.

Amazon will be the next major player in the football market.

I just hope amazon tv doesnt increase in price as a result, they dont need the money and its quite reasonable atm.

Best way to explain it. My little one is now 14 months and have just bought my second property. Will always watch where I can but not the end of the world if not.

I'm sure we can all agree that United unites us for different reasons but there are priorities - though you cant knock the united away fans
