THST statement

On the surface there’s not a lot wrong with that statement. Ticket prices are steep. But to me it does smack of one big whinge from THST, basically a moan that we haven’t got any shiny new toys.

Our squad was good last year, nobody’s left so it’s good this year. The fans HAVE to get behind the team for the start of the season, it’s so important to establish New WHL as a fortress and not a library of grumbling.

No it smacks of not being fobbed off with lies, false statements and general bullshiiiit, as well as not seeing any ambition on the pitch to improve.

I feel they should have slept on it before they released a statement like this.

I also wouldn’t mind separating ticket prices and transfers personally - the vast increase in season ticket prices is pathetic no matter who or how we sign.

Also I think we should realise that because of signing flavour of the month average players like Shaqiri is why we have so much deadwood now. I would rather of signed nothing than Shaqiri.

Better than players with no flavour at all, like N'Koudou.

Shaqiri wouldn't have been a bad bench option. There's a reason Liverpool went for him, and before that Bayern Munich.

You can’t justify a bad signing with a worse signing

Agree with this.

Read the statement and thought ‘get over yourselves’.

It’s a football club, it’s a sport and it’s entertainment, there’s an over the top sense of entitlement among football fans sometimes.

Not to say I don’t think we should have signed a CM, I still think we should have, but we haven’t so let’s jusy get on it with it and enjoy the season.

No one makes us watch football or support spurs

How would Shiqiri have been a worse signing? Do you not think he's better than N'Koudou then?

Why would you think I meant it that way around

comment by Spurtle (U1608)

Because the way you phrased it made it look like you were referring to Shaqiri as the "worse signing".

posted on 9/8/18

Well it should have been obvious but anyway. I don’t get this mentality of signing for the sake of it, Shaqiri would have been a waste of money for a 7th choice player. Similarly someone else mentioned the painfully average Yarmalenko the other day as well.

I am nearly positive that the wage bill is the biggest thing holding us back signing players and with enough dross commanding a pay-check I would rather keep our squad and look to offload Janssen, N’Koudou etc than buy another player like Shaqiri, Yarma etc who is much of the same.

This is such a fun time to support Spurs. Regular CL footy, new stadium, England captain and best striker in the league up front, etc etc.

If you moan and whinge now, isn’t there a good chance you’ll look back and wish you’d just enjoyed the ride?

Sort of makes sense in my head to just look on the bright side and enjoy the exciting times now rather than worry about players staying in the future and so on. Maybe I’m crazy, seems most have a completely different outlook on Spurs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But on the flip side, you don't want to be looking back on this period in 10/20 years thinking you were just 2/3 signings away from winning the title but instead settled for top 4.

The trouble is that the average fan doesn’t have a clue how a club operates or how the markets work.

Sure you can offer a club £30 million more than a player is really worth and get him, however there are no guarantees in football unless you are backed by Qatari money that is.

FFP is dead in the PL, City have found a way round it and that is why they pay stupid wages and transfer fees.

If we tried to spend like them then in two years the club would be in serious trouble.

I also get some satisfaction in having a manager who builds primarily from within and uses youth as well.

Of course I would like a trophy and hope it happens this season. However remember how Ferguson won nothing in his first 4 years at United.......enough said there.

It is what is and we have to accept that the club is going into the new season with the same players we finished last season.
So we don’t have to worry about anyone bedding in, only ensuring that our players who played in the WC are in good shape.

Absolutely spot on statement. No proper fan should accept this window and those who turn up week in week out should be letting Levy know it is totally unacceptable. Those that can't be @rsed and have a different view have no right to comment and seem to accept that once upon a time we used to win things and now we have good players and that we should grateful. Bollox, iv spent over £10k over the last 6 seasons supporting Tottenham and I have every right to disagree with all those do good cants who accept this window. The club is a joke and always finds a way to be a joke. Kiss goodbye to any trophies this season (again). I am absolutely livid and feel like the club has literally mugged as off big time.

Like I say I didn't want Shaqiri because at the time I thought we could do with some better quality signings to improve our squad. It's only now that the window has finished and we've done sod all that he would have been better than nothing as he would have at least been, at worst, a marginal improvement to the squad, being an upgrade on N'Koudou for one. I might even be doing Shaqiri a disservice. He's capable of scoring some good and important goals.

Difference is, I have no control over whether we sign X or sign Y, so I can’t really look back and regret it. But I can control how I choose to feel about the club, optimistic or pessimistic.

In 10 years we’ve come from a mid-table side hoping for the odd cup run to establishing ourselves without question as one of the best 6 clubs in the country hoping for a title. Arguably best 3 based on recent seasons. I’m enjoying the ride and as a fan that’s all you can do, right?

WorcesterSpur that is not all you can do. You can help to drive the club forward by not accepting the appalling in which the squad is built.

Mate. You certainly have the right to disagree but you can’t say I don’t have the right to comment. I don’t even want to think about how much I’ve spent on Spurs in the last 20 years, I followed them to Madrid and back last season and I’ve spent over £1k on my seat for next year.

You’re saying this as if not signing players equals failure. Guess what, one of the worst seasons we’ve had recently came after signing 7 players. Let’s support the team and the board until results on the pitch say otherwise. A ball hasn’t even been kicked yet. Chill out.

Shouldn’t just settle, should always be striving for improvement in all walks of life. This ‘oh we finished 3rd so that will do’ attitude engulfed Arsenal to the point they got complacent and slipped back to 5th and 6th. If we’re supposed to be happy with remaining where we are, the club should be happy with not charging fans more for tickets.

Note however the Levy is still counting on you showing up in his nice new stadium and paying your good money to watch his midtable team.
Just don't go!

Bake em - Ted agrees with you which sums up how much of a hysterical little idiot you are being. ‘No proper fan’, ‘the appalling in which the squad is buit’. We have a top 4 team literally the only one in English Football that have broke the barrier without financial doping. Have a word ffs. I’d hate to see how you behave when something bad actually happens.

Spurtle - again the threshold really shouldn’t be Nkodou. I will agree that we should have strengthened in midfield but signing players for the sake of it is what sky have brainwashed you all into thinking. Shaqiri would have come in at 6th/7th choice costing £18m? (Can’t remember exactly) and based on his 2016 wages he would have been on £4m. This would be a phenomenal waste of money and another none contributor deadwood player who would hinder us in making signings in the future.
