Tevez wasn't better, though he did say harder. Berba could do things Tevez couldn't.

He didn't take us onto another level and you could argue Tevez (who he ultimately replaced) was better but he was a joy to watch at times and it's moments like the Ronaldo assist that you wanna savour. So for that he wasn't a poor signing, just not one who made us better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah, he was a poor signing.

OP sums it up pretty well. He was our record signing at the time but ended up making us worse, and was one of the reasons we lost a better player in Tevez.

Aside from the Liverpool hat-trick (which was brilliant) he bottled it in pretty much all of our big games and when we needed him most. His failure to step up when Rooney got injured in 09/10 ultimately helped cost us a league title.

And Fergie recognised it too. Left out of 2 CL finals. And in our biggest game of the 09/10 season at home to Bayern he opted for a 30% fit (if that) Rooney. 2 seasons later he was our 4th choice striker.

Yeah, wonderfully gifted player and capable of turning it on against the lesser sides. But taking all of the above into account I don't see how he was anything other than a poor signing.

I go to OT to see amazing footballers and to be excited.

Berba always provided that, I don't buy into the whole he was too lazy etc, he was an incredible player, best first touch I have ever seen on a footballer in fact. Maybe we got him when he was coming towards the end of his peak which distorted people's views. Technically, him and RVP are the best strikers I've seen in a united shirt, and I've seen a few.

In today's market he'd be a £70-90m player. And that says it all really.

He'd walk into our current 11 imo! Emphasis on "walk"

In terms of who was a better player for man utd, its not even close, it was tevez.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah nice one. Doesn't change the fact you paid more for Robinho and he was much worse
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which has nothing to do with tevez being better than berb does it.

Idiot.

Only because he wasn't getting game time. And I agree he was better than Berbatov however his final season for us was poor

Finally a civil answer.

See you can do it.

Tevez at his peak was a more effective player than Berbatov, partly because he was more suited contemporary PL football. But he was never half the footballer that Berbatov was.

I'd rather watch Berba play every day of the week and twice on Sunday than any given Tevez highlights reel. Berba was a real artist.

You really think I’m on your board “yours 😂” 24/7

No I’m not and admin can tell you my posting history, I rarely even post in the evenings and at night only really during the day.

Stop being such a drama queen.

Your board ffs it’s a sports website.

Lost, the fact City once had an interest in Berbatov gives you absolutely no right to comment on a public forum.

Bit late on my reply but I don't see how that makes him a 'poor' signing. Poor means you're not very good and do nothing to help the team. Like I said, he may not have taken us up a notch but he was still a joy to watch at times which is what many fans want from a player. He still contributed significantly to us winning 2 titles (especially 10/11), that isn't the definition of a 'poor' signing IMO.

Also, Ferguson was having issues with Tevez which ultimately led to us getting Berbatov, so it wasn't really a case of had we not signed Berbatov then Tevez would have stayed and played well.
