There’s been leaks about a supposed Super League in the offing but Rangers and Celtic aren’t going to be in it, apparently.

Yeah that’s a good point. Not sure there’s really an answer to help got Scotland out of this mess. I guess much more, and better, investment in grassroots could help progress the Scottish game. But then the issue with that is still a matter of finance and the problem of the leagues over the border still in a better position and thus able to poach the talent that may emerge - in many cases before they’ve even made a first team appearance, there a plenty of Scottish players in academies around England.

There are, of course, exceptions but the culture is such that as soon as they get a few bob and turn 18 ....bevy !
Such culture just doesn't exist in Germany , Spain , Portugal , Italy etc.

I find that very difficult to believe. The English academies are currently some of the best in the world.

True and shown when the U 20 side wins competitions but as clubs are under such pressure to remain in the over inflated PL...they don't give all of them a chance and they drift into lower leagues . I think the problem in Scotland is different though where bevy is king

In my opinion, think clubs like Rangers and Celtic can be too slow to use the younger players and when they do get a chance it's normally as a last option. Then players can get expectations to be unrealistically high such as with Fleck, or a few mistakes and a crowd turning on them ruining their confidence like Mo Ross. The kid will either sink or swim. There isn't much room for development. Then the media especially at Rangers and Celtic where it is never ending and a player can suddenly find themselves in way over their head really quickly. I think Scottish football is a different environment to a lot of other countries as it is possibly too important to a lot of people.

And of course the drink.

Whether they would or not that’s two academies. The English academies around the country are of a higher standard than in Scotland.

The successful u20 side has players in the prem, Germany and the championship I believe. Some just aren’t ready for the step up and are still playing academy football.

It’s a double edged sword in that the standard in the league means they academy players have to be at a very high level, but the other problem is that time and patience that is needed to blood these players isn’t on offer at many clubs.

Time will tell how this generation of England youngsters do, but the signs are promising.

I would t day the standard of English academies is that great.. the quality of facilities definitely is.

Scotland has some very good academies outwith the OF.

Our issues are lack of numbers to choose from, and as has already been alluded to.. the drink and lifestyle up here
