May be true, may not be true. If it is true, then why is he complaining about it after being there 3 years? He should have got the whole thing sorted straight away.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know if he has only just started complaining about it. I remember him saying in his first/second season that united should better market their players for the ballon dor the way that madrid do and that we don't have anything in place for stuff like that... I know it's not exactly something that would help us on the pitch but it's an example just one way that we are lacking compared to the top clubs of europe...

We didn't even have a women's team until this season.

Wayne calm down. This isn't transfer news and the talking points are hardly new ones. These are topics we have all discussed on this board and even our players have staged protests about one of the topics. Please use some discernment.

He's still playing players who weren't really good enough for the very very top 6/7 years ago under Fergie, nevermind now.

He's signed a whole heap of players, sold one already and does not pick a lot of the others on a regular basis.

He's a busted flush and he knows it, the club knows it, the fans know it and the players know it. The long goodbye is well underway.

Pretty much.

Hardly surprising and probably close to the truth.

He’ll lash out and blame all and sundry for it going pear shaped. But I don’t think it should be ignored as typical Jose blaming everyone but himself when it highlights fundamental flaws behind the scenes at the club when he does inevitably leave and do this.

Van Gaal touched upon similar issues after leaving. Mourinho will be a lot more scathing as his reputation is at stake.

Didn't we pretty much outbid City for Fred, and also offer monumental wages for Sanchez that even City deemed too much?

One has been complete garbage and got in the way of our best attacker that Jose seemed hell bent on forcing out, and the other can't get a game ahead of our other average midfielders despite spending £50m on him.

Valid concerns with regards to travel arrangements etc.

Jose should focus his concern on what's being served up week in week out on the pitch, because that's his failing.

He might tell you that the scouting network hasn't offered much in the way of fixing this problem and that's why he's playing players of yesteryear.

I think Lukaku was a desperate signing as we needed prem goals.

Sanchez was more of a Woody signing as Mou actually wanted Peresic but Sanchez was a compromise because there was no transfer fee.

Then you have Pogba who was needed because our midfield lacked any quality what so ever and other teams and agents knew this so we had to pay over the odds again because we were desperate.

So that leaves a few other players down to the scouting network and Jose with the penultimate decision.

I'm trying to work out if Jose (if true) has a point, because if he does, changing managers isn't going to help much in the long run.

I think talking about players we don't have, or players we could have is all well and good. But Jose isn't even close to getting the most out of the squad we do have imo, or the type of football I would like to believe our players could be capable of playing for someone with a more modern view on tactics/style of play.

Valid concerns about scouting, recruitment and the set up compared to other top clubs as well, Mike.

Let’s not let Mourinho’s failing deflect from this point. This should be the biggest concern for the fans.

Jose has been trying to dampen his expectations for a while now.

Its concerning we haven't seen any progression in the style or quality of football since he took over two and half years ago.

You might even say that this was going on before SAF left.

He was so reliabe that we probably didn't see much reason to adapt and change things. whatsmore we were in a lot of debt towards the end of his tenure so it's no surprise that we may have cut a few corners or stopped investing in areas that didn't create an measurable profit.

This is most certainly true. Even from the great man himself. While we were still competitive domestically, how many complained about our squad in comparison to even City’s let alone Europe’s elite, post Ronaldo?

I'm not having this scouting network is the root of Jose's problems nonsense.
No top team has a scouting dept with a history of unearthing world class players from 3rd rate leagues for buttons which is what he seemingly expects. What players have the traditional top 4 found in the last decade that would meet that sort of criteria?

Jose simply doesn't have an eye for decent footballers. What lunatic with guts of £80m to spend on a striker looks at Lukaku and thinks he is just the type of fellow to follow in the footsteps of Rooney, Van Persie, Van Nistelrooy as the CF for Man Utd.

Our big issues at present are at RB, CB, CM, RW and CF.

Vrsaljko moved this summer for £22m and started the world cup final
De Vrij went to inter on a free and is the heart of a defence bettered only by Juve in Italy.
Ruben Neves has been known all over Europe for several years, bossed the championship last season and looks the part in the PL. What we spent on Fred would have bought him.
Mahrez was there for the taking in January but Jose wanted Sanchez.

I think this is a very true but damning comment.

What kind of idiot of a manager spends 40 million on Matic. When Chelsea bought someone so far superior it isn't even debatable for 10 million less in Kante.

The fact that we were never in for players like Aguero and Silva despite them being very well known players at the time they transfered rings true in Jose's point about us not being in negotiations for top players.

Even when we were, we let players like Hazard and Lucas Moura go due to agent fees or other issues.

Players when they come here would rather put their kids through the city academy due to having better facilities than us.

As much as I agree that Jose is looking for excuses, it's not hard to find some. We as fans have been witness to all of this for years.

Our squad post Ronaldo still made two CL finals. They just happened to come up against the most techically brilliant in club history.

Fan complaints at the time centred on not replacing Ronaldo with a marquee name and/or spending what was a remarkable fee at the time.
Madrid were keen to offload players to help prepare their new galactico era but we wanted straight cash for Ronaldo rather than player plus cash.
Sneijder, Robben and £45m would have been a great deal for us and may have led to another CL win.
