Need to nationalise the gambling market

What is the taxation around gambling? It'd be nice if the state could see more of the benefit, as we're expected to pick up the all the problems.

Am I right in thinking, that the door was opened to all of this gambling infatuation, by Blair and his cronies in the nineties ?.
I seem to remember that they wanted to have casinos in all major towns !

Children are probably more influenced by loot boxes in games like fortnite than they are advertising during the footy but I guess its certainly not helping.

Recent reports suggest that more children are gambling now than ever but I'm not so sure thats true. We all played cards and pitch and toss when we were kids at breaktime. Mybe its leading to more problem gambling though.

Do agree gaming is a factor but fortnite doesn't have loot boxes as you're know what you're buying. Things like FIFA ultimate team packs are essentially gambling though.

Well, to be fair, then so are Pannini sticker packs, and we all bought them at some point.

True, but I guess the difference is you rarely hear of people sinking £1000+ into Panini stickers

Actually, pretty much every World Cup the papers trot out a story about some nutter in West Bromich, or somewhere, buying up dozens of boxes to complete his collection. Although they're invariably in their 50s and should know better.

My first job was as a trainee manager for Mecca bookmakers. Back then there were lots of restrictions. No advertising, restricted opening hours, no refreshments in the shops, no tv in the shops. And of course no internet - limited phone betting. Even so I saw lots of guys who were compulsive gamblers. You'd see them come in on payday and lose the whole lot in a couple of hours. Used to wonder if they had a wife or kids depending on that wage. I got out of it, but I tell you what, I never saw a rich punter or a poor bookie.

You should see how much people spend on Pokemon cards, Magic cards and the rest. It adds up over a year.

Gambling has feck all to do with sport, it's just about taking money off people with no brains. Fair enough! I hear you cry,but it's bloody irritating for the rest of us! Ban it all I say.

This is the betting firms hedging against government regulations. Should ban all advertising, its toxic for so many. If you need confirmation look at the ceo of one gambling outfit was paid almost £300m this year. Gross.

Gambling addiction is a mental illness and therefore having such a saturation of TV campaigns targeting the most vulnerable is appalling.

Secondly, the message of these adverts is that gambling is cool and fashionable and they are clearly made to act as a recruitment drive targeted at young single men.

This bollux phrase "when the fun stops stop" is such a cop out.

Gambling adverts disclaimers should be as hard hitting as they are with cigarettes. Firm should declare audited win/lose percentages of their customers and they should also declare that they have a policy of restricting or closing down winning accounts.

The industry if a feckin disgrace to be honest
