Think his knighthood is well deserved. Would
Imagine Anderson will probably get one after he retires, no problem here really.

Anderson will get one when he retires.

Given his achievements and compared to others, I think it’s more than merited.

I still don’t think it’s knighthood worthy. Look at Rooney who is top scorer for England, United and won countless trophies which surpasses Cooks achievements. He also has his charity work and the one to one service he provides grannies.

Anderson>Cook in my view!

Very good bat, decent skipper is not Knighthood worthy imo.
We've had better players over the years but apart from Beefy, these have not received a Knighthood.
I understand he's our leading run scorer but Root will be soon enough.
Will he be receiving one?

Overrated but still quality player for England was Sir Alistair Cook but James Anderson is better & should be playing for England ODI team in ICC Cricket World Cup in England in 2019 in my view.

How can a cricketer be overrated? It’s purely a stats based game, and the numbers don’t lie with Alistair Cook. Leading test run scorer for an opening batsmen and countless more.

Just like a politician or a footballer or a teacher or a student can be overrated.

The stats don’t lie.

He’s played about 40 more tests than Gavaskar and Gavaskar has a better average while playing in an era of the great fast bowling

How can that mean he’s overrated? People have better stats than others, that’s how the sport works. More runs than any other Englishmen, more test centuries than any other. Youngest player (from any country) to score 6,000, 7,000, 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, 11,000 and 12,000 runs in Test cricket. Second opener (after Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar) to reach over 10,000 Test runs, first opener to reach over 11,000 and 12,000 Test runs. Well deserved knighthood.

So he's not as good as Gavaskar? He could still be worth a knighthood.

I didn’t say he was overrated. He’s had a very good international career and at times he would get in any world 11s.

I just don’t think cos you have achieved some personal milestones it should be enough to get a knighthood.

Well it’s a game built on personal achievements, regardless he lead England to test victories against Aus, SA, India (in India) etc. Suppose they all count for nothing is well?

posted on 30/12/18

It isn’t just personal milestones, it’s achievements that are up there with anyone to have ever played the sport. That’s what knighthoods in sporting terms are given for.

Anderson will probably get one too when he retires. The one thing that goes in Cooks favour with that is his captaincy and charity work on top of the playing.

England had a loser who used to have a great batting average but rarely used to win a match for England in dire time of need.He was mentally weak and most importantly not a match winner but looked good by playing slowly in almost any Test match situation.Does this ring a bell, fellas?

Atherton?

Stupid to give someone a knighthood so soon after retiring. Would have no problem with him getting it in 5-10 years but barely 6 months after retiring come on give us a break.

Nasser and Atherton deserve a knighthood way more than Cook.
