Many will have met him at least once.

Get him to watch Dammed United- pretty accurate if I remember from my youth. Also plenty of clips on YouTube from interviews etc

My logic here may be flawed but in terms of the "personality" part...

My ex came from the Boro and I always planned to go to the birth streets of both Clough and Revie (as they both came from Boro).

I had no great expectation, apart from it would have been interesting to see where 2 great rivals were born (and so close to each other).

Clough did have a very matter of fact and direct persona, which is quite similar to that of folk I met in Boro.

If its possible, it may be an idea for your mate to visit those tough, terraced streets to see not only what his upbringing was potentially like but the general vibe of the people in the area.

Of course a link to Boro may be required for this.

When I was four I had a pee next to him at Nottingham Playhouse. It was the interval of a panto.

My Dad was on the PTA of my village primary school. He used to try to get a Derby player to open the annual summer fete. I remember playing footy in my garden with Terry Hennessy one year. On one occasion a player dropped out at the very last minute. Brian turned up. He went from stall to stall with a hat, selling his autograph and suchlike and putting the cash in the hat. When he had been to every stall he gave my Dad the hat with the cash and told him to put it into PTA funds.

Once my Dad queued up for Cup tickets in the early 70s, can’t remember which match. After queuing for half the day, the chap in front of my Dad had the last ticket. My Dad was walking disconsolately away when Brian emerged from a door. He noticed my Dad’s expression and asked him what was up. My Dad told him that he had taken half a day off work from International Combustion to queue for tickets. Brian asked who his boss was and then popped back into the Baseball Ground. He came out with two tickets for him and myself. The next day his boss told him that Brian had telephoned him the previous afternoon to check he was telling the truth before giving him the free tickets.

If your friend is writing their dissertation then what use are the unverifiable opinions and anecdotes of a group of random people on a football forum?

The Dammed United was a rubbish film and many of the facts were wrong. I have met Brian Clough 3 times and he was a gentleman every time. Once I was in the Kedleston zhotel and he asked me for a light for his large cigar, I was so nervous but he was great with me.

Brian Clough was a genius and probably the best football manager ever, what he did at Derby and Forest will never be equalled.

See, this comment is clearly very weighted. Pretty much proving my earlier point about the unreliability of unverifiable sources. I cannot stress enough that if you are citing JA606 in a dissertation then that dissertation will fail.

I told him I was on a forum that was rather active of fans from clubs Clough coached. I think this topic has been raised before but counsels be bothered to search through articles to find.
Don’t feel obliged to comment fella

Many things in life are “unverifiable”. They are just a couple of anecdotes. Lubo, if you think I am making the whole thing up, contact Findern Primary School in Derbyshire. I am sure they can put you in touch with people who would have been around at that time. Or, alternatively, you can try not being such a nob.

Not saying you are mate. Just saying that will be flagged as an issue should someone cite you in an actual dissertation

Lubo, the OP asked for opinions of BC. I will accept he wasn’t given enough time at Leeds to really stuff you up for ever, but he did a fantastic jobs at Derby and Forest and is remembered with affection for his personality and his beautiful football. Not something ever said about Revie.

Again, not saying that he didn't do some spectacular things for two football clubs who needed it. I am saying that the opinions and anecdotes of faceless people on an internet forum are not viable things to cite in a dissertation.

If Raptors friend wants this sort of thing then he should read autobiographies of players who played under Clough, or other such books.

With respect that is quite an inaccurate statement.

There are many that recognize Don Revie's greatness, including former England captain Kevin Keegan. Like him or not, Keegan has credible stature in the game.

How is it that Leeds fans get such a reputation for being thick tvvats? It’s baffling.

The name was given fondly during/after your club's 2007/08 glorious Prem season.

I think Frank Lampard has been a classy individual and will be a success with you as long as he his given time.

Just remind everybody where Leeds were in the 2007/2008 season, there’s a good chap.

In other news, Shaqiri attempting a Tom Lawrence-esque chip and failing, (but they did score eventually).
