I think you’ve lost the plot, 3R.

He’s too short, too attack-minded, and right footed.

He's right-footed Ramdini.

................... so would probably get picked for England in that position.

Being short isn't a reason not to be a full back - its probably the position where shortest players do best in fact

Being attack minded isn't a reason either in this modern age - many wingers have converted to attacking full backs, like Ashley Young

And being right footed didn't stop Paolo Maldini or Philip Lahm playing there very successfully.

Bennett may well make a decent left back - Holmes is certainly a decent right back when needed, but better in midfield.

However, I don't see that we have an issue at left back. I like Malone's energy and with Cole as back up and Lowe still learning the ropes we are well set for this season and next.

Baz. I do not think height or being right footed is necessarily a problem. He seems to me to be pretty two-footed anyway and I've seen him put in a few decent crosses from either wing.. And one of the best left backs we had in recent years was Roberts in PL times. And it was bing attack minded that caused me to think that way - plus the fact that Malone hasn't quite got there yeas a left back.

And Peeder, I am taking a longer term view, that of creating a valuable asset for DCFC, whereas at the moment he's a bit anonymous. With Ashley Cole to take him under his wing it seems a good opportunity.

Bennett is a sprinter, the modern day wing back needs to have plenty of stamina. Can't imagine Bennett lasting 90 minutes of dashing up and down the pitch.

Ramdini - I can see the logic in your suggestion, but I'm not convinced that it warrants the investment of Coles time.

Malone is a very decent left back, far better than Fozzy. His main flaw seems to be off the pitch, in that he moves clubs quite often, for various reasons including winding up the fans! But Bennett would have to learn a lot and quickly if he's going to replace Malone.

Also, we've had Bennett at the club for, what, 10 years, so surely someone better placed would/should have spotted his potential to be a full back by now?

You lot saying being right-footed and playing in the left wing position is OK tell me everything that is wrong with football, square pegs in round holes and all that...............

Scouse - behave ...

Chris Waddle - left footed/right wing
Paolo Maldini - right footed/left back

The list goes on!
#Total football

Paolo Maldini was right-footed but played left side. In his words, he didn't have a weak foot, just has a natural one and a manufactured one. ..."adjustment was a simple question of practicality"

He also said, "“If I have to make a tackle then I have already made a mistake.” He averaged only 0.56 challenges per game during his career.

Round peg, square hole???

Ive not seen Malone make a decent cross yet. And I've seen Bennett make several. It's true he has been at Derby for a long time and not made his mark. I know Frank likes him and just maybe it is where he would manage to do so. I would not like to see such talent wasted.

Yes but not many Championship (or Prem) players are quite up to Maldini's quality

It should be a crime to be a professional footie player if you can't use both feet anyway.

And I don't intend to disparage Malone at all. He has been not too bad.

Thought Malone made a decent cross on Saturday but putting the ball in the right place doesn't mean a forward is going to get on the end of it.

Actually most players now find it difficult to place a cross. The hard plastic coated balls take a bit more technique to place the ball. They are generally over hit. With the old leather ball it was much easier to judge the length. Even I could do it. Mainly because hitting the ball as hard as you could from the wing meant it would drop in the penalty area.

I think using two players (Waddle and Maldini) to ‘prove ‘ your point is a little short-sighted. I agree with Scouse and square pegs etc..

I might entertain Bennett making a RB but not LB, not for me. That’s like trying to forge him into the side for the sake of it.

BJ in my opinion has all the attributes to make a LB, I’ve said it for a long time.

And for Cole on £15k p/w to be ‘mentoring’ Bennett at LB is also laughable, sorry.

posted on 11/2/19

I can see and agree with your point about RB. However we have 2 decent RB's at the moment. LB has always been a difficult position.

Remember Gareth Roberts and Then Dean Moxey and then Fossie?

I don't see Bennett making it Derby in any position long term

Put it this way, can you imagine a top half Championship team actually paying money for him? I cant

posted on 11/2/19

Couldn't imagine half the teams in the Championship paying any money for Pukki but he seems to be doing OK. I am yet to understand why though.

posted on 11/2/19

The only reason Bennett is playing for Derby is because he came up through the ranks, they'd never have bought him
He'll probably end up in league one or two IMO after being released

I actually heard FL - in an interview - say he loved for Mason Bennett for his enthusiasm and hard work. Je'd trying to make something of him - and that is very creditworthy.

He couldn't even make the first team in Scotland though. You have to be an least an amputee to achieve that.

He has that uncanny knack of being able to hit the target regularly.
The reason you don't like him, Spart, is that he's keeping Jordan Rhodes out of the side

I think Mason should be left back in the dressing room. Possibly.

Why AJ? You also think that of Keogh. In fact there appear to be very few players in a Black and White shirt that you seem to like.
