Lukaku has played in the premier league for nearly seven years now, yes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And in that time he’s scored a hattrick against us, scored home and away against Spurs, home and away against Chelsea, home and away against City, home and away against Arsenal etc

His record has against the big sides is worse for us but there are factors

Form
He got chunky over the summer
Jose’s tactics
Great keeping

Just to clarify - I’m not saying he’s some blameless elite striker. I’m just trying to make the debate less one dimensional than the usual moronic ‘he’s a big game choker’ one. When he just scored two important goals in our biggest game of the season.

Yet in that time his overall record and influence in big games has always been wanting.

I'm not even going to dignify your excuses for his record at United being worse when he played for poor Everton and West Brom teams.

Oh go on, dignify it Ed. Did he get regular games? Did he get great service? Did we play itin a way that suited him, did he have a manager to bring out the best in him?

I think off what I've seen the last few weeks - I've sort of changed my mind in that I'd be happy to keep him as a squad player. He's lost a bit of bulk and looks a bit quicker and more mobile

When all are fit though I still dont think he should be starting regularly. When Lingard is back I still think we should definitely go back to that preferred front 3 of him, Rash and Martial
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, it only took one game for fans to turn their back on him 😂

We do suck as a fanbase - why don’t you turn your back on Rashford after today? 🤔
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What are you talking about? It isn't after one game at all Robb. It's a view I have come to after almost 2 seasons of watching him. We are a more fluid team when he isn't our centre forward.

Strange, all I've said there is I dont think he should be starting regularly and you've gone and got your knickers all in a twist.

Thou shalt not criticise Lukaku, Fellaini, Jose or Moyes.

He should have scored. Maybe multiple times. But if he was home grown, would you have more sympathy for him? The reason I ask that is because Rashford was dreadful, snatched at everything and made the wrong choice whilst destroying every counter attack. Lukaku wasn't the problem today imo. But then again, he wasn't born on Moss Side

Thought I was quite complimentary of him actually. Clearly Robb is in one of his super-defensive modes today.

OGS has a few big calls in the summer that might define his era as a utd manager

and one of them is how he handles lukaku
1) believe he can get lukaku playing in the first 11 well with coaching and a few tactical changes

2) convince lukaku to stay as a squad player

3) sell lukaku and try to bring in a better fit

all these options have risks and rewards imo. I personally hope he can be ruthless and not opt for option 1.

after moyes took over one of the decisions he made that defined is tenure was to keep rooney as the main striker.

just to clalify this for the armchair fans who dont get to see Uniited...

Manchester United have without doubt the best supporters in the country. Our home support is un challenged, the best and most loyal, year-on-year and has been for decades and our away support is in a different league.

What idiots who would rather go shopping with their wags on Saturday afternoons rather that pay to watch United is irrelevant.

He’s scored 6 times in the three games before today and even though he didn’t score today he played well generally and is our top scorer this season. Those goals came in a run where we got into the top 4 and made the quarters of the CL

And yet he still should be dropped for other players when they come back. Seems a bit odd

This is ridiculous because we've had plenty of youth products who have been criticised by fans. Even Rashford has been called schit on here by fans, especially during the first half of this season when Jose was in charge.

Rashford was poor today but he has a higher ceiling than Lukaku and is four years younger which is why people are showing him patience now that Ole is here.

Yes. I am not fickle enough to completely change my opinion of him after 3 games.

He's done well recently and he can be a useful player but I prefer our football with a more dynamic front 3.

I really don't see why this offends you.

Rashford is the future of Man United. You gotta be able to accept that or you are just wasting your time.

It's not hard to work out why people are more forgiving of a young player like Rashford playing badly than a £75m striker in his prime failing to get on the score sheet again in a game against a big side.

"To be fair Robb has a good point there.
Easy to say Lukaku doesn’t do the business against the top sides, but how many games against the other big 6 have we bossed since he signed/under Jose?"

It isn't a good point though because his record for his previous club's and country is also poor against top sides.

It's frustrating because Robb knows this, propel have put the numbers to him in black and white.

Rashford may have a higher ceiling than Lukaku but he also has a lower floor! Had Lukaku performed the way Rashford did today, I dread to think what would be said here.

I'm not anti-Rashford by any means, but when he's bad, he's very very bad. And he was today. Yet Lukaku was the problem. He missed a sitter. He should be scoring that chance and if he had done we would probably have won. So, of course he deserves criticism. But he did actually play well after that, whilst his partner in crime had an unbelievably awful game. That's all

We've looked far better with Rashford down the middle under Ole than Lukaku playing anywhere tbh. He just offers us more. Rashford was woeful today but seemed to be pushed outside again at times which he struggles with.

Martial Rashford Lingard is currently our best frontline when all are fit. Next season I'm hoping we can bring in Sancho and Jesse gets rotated more. We need a stronger squad anyway.

Lukaku just won't win us a league title. He's just not good enough. He's a decent striker but will never be enough with the competition we have in the PL. His all round game is just not there.
