Jones was 24 and macca 25 when we signed them.

We don’t need old players, we need good players, nothing else.

And it’s not like the squad was that young anyway

Keeper
Ayling
Cooper
Jannsen
Douglas
Pablo
Baradi

Who have I missed ???

Aloski 27
Klich nearly 29
Dallas 28
Forshaw 27
Phillips 24 this year and started plenty of games
Banford 25
Roofe 26

I’d argue we need younger better players

Casila 32
Berardi 30
Jansson 28

Assume an unintentional slip, think you mean the likes of Kamara not McAllister - Macca joined in Summer 1990.

Might be worth remembering a young future England international was also in the midfield - Bats

and Gary Speed......quality players needed young or old.

Vinnie a calming presence?..

Wilko brought him in because he new how to stir players up, he was a master at it and when they came against him they new they were in for a rough time!..

He also had Chapman who if I'm not mistaken wasn't the youngest but he did more than our lot did this season!..

The youngsters had nothing to do with us losing the Play Offs, it was dumb defending and an even dumber red card that let us down!..

And the keeper played his role as well!..

Did you know our last stint in the Champions league we had one off the youngest teams ever to play?..

Sorry should have said top-quality older players i.e. players who have achieved, have won trophies and who know what it takes to do that.

I can see your point of view, I really can.

And we always looks for reason and excuses for when something wrong.

But it think it was just not enough good players in the end, and January killed us

We might have lost but I think you'll find that we were the talk off the tournament!..

And I know because the Germans were all on about such a young team doing the Semis!..

German commentators were saying the team were young, frech,(something like naughty!)and were scared off nobody!..

Agree Wakey - they gave everything but we fell a couple of real quality players short - just look at the solid midfield in the 89-90 season as a case in point feeding renaissance man Chapman.

And a very underrated Carl Shutt

And this year we were the talk of the Championship – especially when we got knocked out. Meaningless if there's nothing to show for it.

Yes ultimately is was down to a lack of quality, which comes back to the disastrous January window. Still waiting for an acknowledgment off AR and his sidekick that they b@llsed up there. I'm not holding my breath...

So older players would have stopped that happening?..

I don't think so!..

Maybe we need Milner, and Snodgrass, even Howson - that would give lots of experience.

OP, Isn't that what colin tried to do? We need a mix of both.

Seem to remember Warnock giving his mates a final pension top up or is that too cynical?

Older players would bring more success...we would be in the Premier league by now if we had much older players.
Older players sleep less...sleep is a waste of time.
The recommended 8 hours of sleep shortens life by a 3rd, you could not have great expectations of a 19/21 year old who, having spent 1/3 of his life in bed, had only approx 14 years experience behind him and even less in playing time...we have too many young players, get rid of them, they're foolish and inexperienced.

Lorralorimer - I was thinking something similar. It's not that we need old bodies but an old head or two. Someone with leadership qualities who can be Bielsa's man on the pitch, organising, cajoling and maintaining discipline when things are not going to plan. We had too many sendings off and too many games where the wheels fell off.

You've just proved my point. Inexperience and the lack of self control were the main factors. Calm heads were needed but nowhere to be found.
