Talk about a tale of two halves - at half time I thought we were lucky to be level, thanks to Sadlier's great finish from Copps' lovely chip forward. The lads certainly looked as though they had never played together, and the Gillingham goal was a comedy of errors by two of our defenders. I thought it is really going to be a tough season.
The second half brought hope - it was like a different team playing, and we just about deserved to nick a win. I agree with most of the above comments on the players except I thought both full backs were weak (I see Andrew scored for Fleetwood!) and I would have given MoM to Whiteman. Certainly May had lots of energy and went close twice, but he does not seem to have League One ability to consistently put it in the net.
Let's hope we do sign a good striker.
Overall, there were signs of talent, and when it all blends together, we should be a force in League One.

Total tale of two halfs, should of gone it at half time 2 or 3 down. Dont think Baptist won a header in first 45mins. Superb chip from Copps, even better finish from Sadlier. Other than that a half to forget.
2nd half we got more in there faces, both full backs pushing on, both Bens started to dictate the game, played two defence splitting passes for Alfie, but he still keeps turning away and not looking at the ball when he runs into space. Had a couple of chances, didn't take them. The young Arsenal lad looks the dogs, if you thought Kane and Wilks were good, this lad will outstrip both of them. Every time he got on the ball the ground stood up. Defence was better in 2nd half, midfield pushed on more too. Must of been one hell of a H/T team talk by Moore as we were a different team.
This team that started would be a mid table one, sorry to say once new signings come in, it'll be the bench for Alfie. Sadlier could become the one to shine this season, but, he's not a No.9. The other Arsenal lad will start plus another striker, would mean Badger n Alfie on the bench. Once Joe Wright is fit, Baptist will be on bench too. Getting the dept in the squad now, but we must pick the strongest starting 11.
Exciting times ahead me thinks, all about the Moore train.👍

I was beginning to wonder why no one posted anything on the day of the match.

I could not listen to iFollow and the highlights did not really bring out the best of the second half performance, but I am happy to take the word of those who reported. Thank you.

Alfie does seem to still be lacking the final deadly touch, but if he were ever to find it consistently he would be an extremely valuable asset.

Until then it is an encouraging thought that the Laurie Sheffield of the 21st century may well be being lined up at this very moment and only needs to put his name on the contract...

Perhaps I have been seduced into believing what I read about the potential recruits.

Can there really be such talent available at this stage in the window?

DM seems very relaxed re recruitment - he's not going to be "knee-jerked" into recruiting out of panic and that's a good thing. He clearly wants to ensure that we build the right foundations with the right blend of players. Hopefully there are a few gems left out there! 45 games to go.

For the Rochdale game I'd like to see Blair replace Halliday and Ennis for Gomes. Bit more pace and energy and I think the goals and results will come.

Who's going to replace Whiteman then?

Gary Hooper might be a good punt

After the half time break and the reshuffle, Halliday was excellent on a Saturday.
He was second in the L1 stats for successful tackles made and is a far better defender than Blair.
