And RVP fell off a cliff that year too. The guy who carried us to the last title. Not making a defence of Moyesy by the way. Just wondering what is the lowest ebb that Ole is allowed to sink to, in terms of results and performances? Or is there one?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems he gets another Summer window, no matter how the 2nd half of the season goes.
8 wins from 21. Closer to 18th than 3rd points wise.
.....
How about position in the table wise? City are closer to 8th than they are top points wise. The so called best team in the Prem.

That will depend on this window and our CEO’s ability to back the manager.
If you were an older fan instead of one who has only known the good times you will understand why we can’t just keep sacking managers until we get it right.

We are 5th largely due to how poor the competition is. 8 wins in 21 is shocking for a club with our resources. The fact so many of our fans disagree is further evidence of standards slipping at the club.

The opinion appears to change depending on the manager
Because the right manager may take a while to implement his ideas.
Because it costs a lot to sack a manager
Because you will run out of top managers.
Because the more you sack the less attractive it becomes to one you want.

But ole isn’t a top manager. So instead of thinking we’ll run out of them we should try having faith in actual top managers.
And as for the ‘the more you sack’ - keeping someone like Ole when the football world can see how bad it is we look worse- and indecisive.

Or you could let someone grow into the role. Sounds risky, but at the moment it’s not like we’re getting relegated is it? That’s why people keep emphasising the current league position and the good results we have had.
Van Gaal made mistakes. Playing players out of position; signing players for large sums and giving up on them pretty quickly; going into a season with one recognised striker; failing to have us score more than two goals per game for long periods.
Mourinho made mistakes. Signing Sanchez and benching Martial; playing slow combinations too often; playing against rivals and being phenomenally defensive when even if we went out as favourites; criticising players in public or playing them out of position to make a point.
This doesn’t mean the next “proven” manager will fail, but it suggests that going down that route isn’t the only answer. Some of these mistakes might also have been the result of ageing managers being too stubborn and set in their ways.
I’m not “Ole in” by any stretch: if he doesn’t get CL football, I think he’ll be sacked like the others. But we’re not there yet and there are many ways the season could end.
With the two clowns of the Man Utd board in full swing, the debate rages on.
Sigh.
One error I have noticed is this claim that you either think Ole should be sacked or you think he should keep his job.
Wrong.
There’s a middle ground where you appreciate that both options are imperfect and that you as a fan have no actual say in the matter, unless you want to go to matches and begin voicing your disapproval to the board.
I don’t particularly rate Ole and I have concerns about where we are. However, I also understand some of the challenges he faces, reasons why turning the club back around will take time and that he has done some good things.
This binary debate is unhelpful and becoming tedious in the extreme.
The main problem with that though is, we've rolled the dice a lot, and now we've landed on a 1 imo. Should he be the one to build the team? A man with very few credentials before coming and who is not taking us forward in terms of style of play or results on the pitch.
Whilst sticking with one man and letting him build, I'd suggest that should be a DOF, as opposed to a manager. As managers often fail (Ole) and you need continuity. But if we really do need a manager to be the guy who is there throughout a rebuild, I still think results should be considered paramount, in terms of present and future. I don't see Ole as the man to deliver either

Haha.... even RDD is digging you out, Robb
Statistically Solskjaer is the best manager we had since SAF left. Problem is we are the least efficient side at both ends since SAF left.
So what you're saying is, statistically he's actually not the best manager at all. But if you take xG into account (a theoretical system that assumes all goalkeepers and attackers are of equal ability) then we've maybe been unlucky. Liverpool are incredibly fortunate to absolutely smash xG every year...

Its almost like different managers have different levels of quality so deserve more or less faith 🤔
The problem with the argument that Ole isn’t a good manager and shouldn’t be trusted with funds is that he was given the job in the first place.
What people are really saying is that enough time has elapsed for us to expect better.

You don’t seem to understand that your view may not actually be the right view
Mine may not either but I’m not here trying to shut down the debate by saying it’s wrong to hold a view
Believe it or not, it’s not the niche view to thing Ole is out of his depth. It’s actually the majority of the football world that think it. Again, doesn’t make it the right or wrong view but don’t try and pretend it’s just the view of a couple of scallywags on a football forum and should be dismissed.
All I am saying the tactics are like that of the best manager in the world, especially considering our weaknesses of our squad. Its not the managers fault De Gea is near useless since March 2019 and we have near the worst conversion rate in the league.
The only thing I can blame Solskjaer for is letting Smalling go out on loan and bringing Maguire in. Also Greenwood should be a starter.
Its almost like different managers have different levels of quality so deserve more or less faith 🤔
........
That falls flat when comparing your stances on Moyes and LVG.
I look forward to your next piece of goalpost shifting. Please try to keep them on the same pitch.
We've drawn 7 games this year. We've led in all but one of those. So tactically, something must be amiss there. I'd suggest that bringing on defenders for midfielders and attackers when defending leads, inviting pressure, when we can't defend crosses to save our lives haven't been great tactical decisions, for instance
