Team selection head ache

Rest 4 or 5 for Brentford and go all out against Villa - its a semi final, cant rest anybody for that. Dont even think about the Chelsea game until after Villa.

Could easily be two reserve sides on Saturday. Silly one for the BBC to televise really.

I think we'll see a real makeshift team, probably with Barnes up front again given Vardy's injury. Something like this:

Ward
Justin, Morgan, Benkovic, Fuchs
Praet, James (not a misprint)
Gray, Perez, Albrighton
Barnes

Rodgers will want everyone fit for the Villa and Chelsea matches, and it's a very quick turnaround.

I be shocked if more than 2, at the very most, were selected for this game and the Villa game.

Ward
Justin, Morgan, Benkovic, Fuchs
James, Choudhury
Albrighton, Praet, , Gray
Iheanacho

Momentum required give Ian more game time and win this one Dubs we haven't got another fifty years in us to wait for another FA cup final.

I think you’re right and that’s why they bought Barnes off with the 3rd sub. Said last night he’s our 3rd choice striker at the mo!

Not difficult at all in my opinion.
A number of changes will be made v Brentford and then full strength (from whoever is available) v Villa & Chelsea.

I misread that and for a moment genuinely thought Nev had replied to himself saying "Hmm, good point".

Nev - I too want to see us taking the FA Cup seriously and going for glory in it. However, reaching the semis of League Cup and drawing the theoretically weakest team left in it has to override that. If it wasn't for that, I'd be saying Go for it.

Exactly, our hands are forced somewhat, given the cup semi final in midweek.

Spot on.

Ian is definitely deserving of a run in Vardy’s absence. He’s been very impressive of late. His aggression, close control and link up play have been fantastic.

Coupled with things like his driving run and shielding the ball to win the penalty against West Ham is great centre forward play. Perez benefitted from playing behind him.

Come on Ian, now is your time. Brilliant to see his confidence coming back. More credit to Rodger’s ability as a coach. Even Mendy looked decent last night!!!

Reserves on Saturday. Brendan has already said he's going to make changes. Hopefully Brentford will also do that with an eye on the Forest game next week.

FA Cup or Champions League?

FA Cup. Done the Champions League. Unless of course you mean win the thing!

Champions League all the way.

Both

I get that people want to finish top four. It increases the sustainability of the club both financially and in terms of potentially keeping your best players. The question is: why does anyone want to become a sustainable club in the upper echelons of the Premier League?

The answer is so that you can compete for trophies on a regular basis. Without winning anything it’s just another passage in our history with nothing in the honours list. To qualify for the big competitions every year and win nothing? You’re basically just Spurs

True, but here we have a situation where we have a 4th round of Cup 1 vs the semi-final of Cup 2, within 3 days of each other. The semi is too good an opportunity to turn down; it has to be prioritised and unfortunately it comes after the FA Cup match.

If we’re still in the FA Cup later in the season and our lead over the chasing pack is still healthy, then we can seek to prioritise it. Doing it now would be a mistake, I think.

I was answering Florida’s question: both

I would still rotate for Brentford. It’s all about calculated risk. Ward, Morgan, Fuchs, Justin, Albrighton, Gray and Praet are all players who are better than top half Championship standard. The key to rotation is keeping the team balanced. All those players know our style and have played recently.

We could lose to a decent team, but we could play our best players and lose if we’re not on it. Tricky tie, but I’m still hopeful that we’ll have enough to win.

FA Cup if I had to choose. Hopefully I don’t and see balance the squad to do the domestic double and finish second.

Easy.

I'd rather we concentrate on Chelsea, don't really care about either cup because I don't see us winning either of them. Don't see how we will beat City in a cup final, they're too experienced and we're too young and inexperienced and I think the occasion will get the better of our players and they'll go into their shells as usual.

Yeah the idea is so that you can become good enough to win trophies but right now we're not. We're not as good as City and we won't beat them in the final.
