Nice spin.

How was paying a world record fee for Maguire addressing a key area when we already had Mike?

Also, while I like AWB, is he really the answer to repacling Tony, a fullback who was defensively sound but useless going forward?

We didn’t buy any defensive midfielders, attacking midfielders or wingers of quality, those where clearly the most important areas that needed addressing.

So, yes we did ignore key areas and our summer transfers overall weren’t that great when you consider what we needed, the fees we paid and most importantly, how much better we were after it.

True. Though I do think Fernandes will be good value.

And we didn’t sign a striker either. Quelle surprise, we struggle to create, score and control midfield.

And we ignored replacing Lukaku or Sanchez upfront. It’s ridiculous how some fans are unwilling to accept how poor our summer window was.

None of Fellaini, Herrera, or Lukaku were replaced.

We were asking for trouble.

Smalling is not and never has been better than Maguire. He was let go because he really wasn't all that good. There were others who should have gone before him, don't get me wrong. But let's not eulogise a career of performances that just didn't justify it

In our last 5 league games we’ve only scored in one of those games.

Our next 5 league games..

Chelsea away
Watford home
Everton away
City home
Spurs away

Baptism of fire for Ighalo 😂

Name me one club that has ever brought in more than 3 players in a transfer window. Just doesn’t happen.

See Ole saying yesterday not many teams break Watford down? They’ve had two clean sheets in their last eleven, both against us.

posted on 2/2/20

And even before this, people were saying all was good as we were 5th. Well, we aren't and it's likely to get a lot worse in terms of league position, very quickly

Chelsea away- win
Watford home- win
Everton away- win
City home- lose
Spurs away- draw.

That’ll do.

Draw, win, draw, lose, draw. And I'm being optimistic with those predictions

Can someone tell me if Ole was joking about the goalposts being moved - at first I thought he was but actually I don’t think he was

Merry

I’ve never claimed Mike to be a great defender and I would have loved to bring in a top quality one but Maguire has done very little so far to suggest he’s any better, especially considering the fee paid.

It’s this flawed logic that fans can’t seem to understand that just because some fans don’t rate Maguire that highly, doesn’t mean they rate Mike that much higher either. Both are mediocre, so replacing one for another on top of breaking the world record was a poor decision when it was abundantly clear other areas needed fixing first.

Obviously taking the piiiiiiss. I do find his interviews incredibly cringeworthy, however. Very similar to Moyes in that regard.

He says some stupid stuff but seems to get away with it because of who he is. Only the other day he claimed Shaw could be one of the best LBs in the league?!

On a separate note, apparently Anthony Martial is Joel Glazers favourite player. And will not under any circumstances let him be sold. Looks like we’re stuck with him

The fee is irrelevant. He is significantly better than Mike.

Though we definitely could and should have improved on other areas before centre back.

" The fee is irrelevant. He is significantly better than Mike.'

No he isn't, he hasn't yet shown anything so far at United that was anything better Mike did. He was bought to replace him primarily becasue of his ability on the ball (which we have hardly seen), for his ability in the air (we have the worst defence on set pieces and he hasn't scored a single goal with his head) and his leadership (yes he's better there but nothing special).

And why is the fee irrelevant? It clearly has an effect on what the club can spend on other areas as we don't have a bottomless pit to spend. So if we waste a huge sum on Maguire then it's most likely effects any chance of bringing in other players in areas of greater importance.

He is. Smalling was a bit of a liability. Maguire is a far better defender. Smalling has become much better in his own absence.

Baffles me that anyone can think Maguire is significantly better than Smalling.
