I can’t wait to see the chaos as imported food and key goods are delayed in European ports on the way into t he UK.

Because then without the revenue t he y create the EU can say, told you so.

And the lines and delays in airports and ports, something nd that’s non existent at the moment delay us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The EU are not obliged to fix our mess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So they wont be interested in getting paid for the exports/imports into the UK?

Interesting....that is a way to show the UK what we are missing out on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The EU has already acknowledged (and been spending billions upscaling ports etc since 2017) there will be new barriers to trade with the UK.

They are also (legally) obliged to levy the common external tariff to UK goods as the UK will be outside of its customs union.

Plus the extra regulatory burdens (as well as non-tariff barriers) EU businesses will need to absorb, this is why UK companies have been slowly but surely removed (contracts not renewed etc) from EU supply chain networks.

Many EU businesses (especially SMEs) are not financially robust enough to take on service delays and costs by trading with UK partners, and have already sourced new partners within the confines of the EU's internal market.

Which is one of the reasons why foreign investment into the UK has fallen off a cliff - despite trading conditions remaining as is.

Wonder where the exported goods that are usually sold into the U.K. from Europe will be directed to then.

Interesting.

8-10% of EU trade is to the UK from internal trading.

So I am sure making that more expensive and difficult is a good idea for the EU<OK>

Pritt Patel, what an revolting creature.

How is the rest of the world supposed to respond to our appalling new immigration policy?

They will shun us, and righty so.

No-one is saying we won’t continue to import goods and commodities from the EU.

They will just become more expensive and take longer to distribute. A bit like having Amazon prime, (next day deliveries etc) and in turn downgrading to second class deliveries, yet expecting comparable benefits.

This will cause major issues for UK industries which rely on Just in Time manufacturing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just-in-time_manufacturing and in some sectors, (aviation and automotive in particular) render business models obsolete.

Plus there are perishable commodities with a short shelf life, (medicines, food etc) which will not survive delays in supply chains.

Trade bodies across the country have been lobbying the government since 2016 to consider their member’s needs, and as we enter into phase two there is still little evidence of the government considering business needs.

Making it more expensive and difficult is what was voted for. Erecting barriers, borders and imposing economic sanctions on ourselves was the UK’s choice.

Life before the EU?

Ah yes when we were known as the sick dog of Europe and people died from whooping cough, scurvy and oh yes in world wars.

But hey, at least there were less black and brown people which is what this is REALLY about.

Expected a bit better from you Grandspurs to be honest.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Dont try to label me a racist because thats simply untrue

You were not even about before we joined the common market so how would you know what it was like?

You are so typical of the scaremongers that tell everybody that the "end of the world is nigh" grow up and lets see what happens.

As for the "sick dog of europe" I think you have been reading the sun mate they spread rumours like that.

There were plenty of really clever people that were brexiters but you know better?

I expected more from you especially regarding democracy.

Oh do tell us what it was like Grand, those carefree days when you only had safe white neighbours and you could leave your back door open and your kids could play out in the streets and there was no crime.

Those days?

Think you need to take your rose coloured glasses off.

As for respecting democracy, I do.

This fascist bull$hit, not so much.

Grow up of course there was crime and there were black people I am still good friends with some of them I knew from school.

What there was not was a 3 week waiting list when you needed a doctors appointment, there were not overloaded schools and we were ranked number one in the world for education, look where we are now.

There were not people throwing their toys out of their prams when an election or referendum went against them insulting anybody who dare disagree with them online either.

Right, so you’re basically blaming immigrants for waiting times and the doctors, housing shortages, and school standards and not the policies of our own government and chronic underinvestment.

Classic.

Apologies for the long post!

As the WA is now law, we have a much greater understanding of what will happen. And what will not.

The obvious downgrading of our global/EU trading relationships aside, the main (other than the NI protocol) differences from the ‘May’ deal are commitments to workers’ rights, data, environmental (plus emissions) standards (and others) were removed from the (binding) WA to the non-binding political declaration.

If it were the government’s intentions to maintain baseline EU standards, which we’ve enjoyed over the years, (which we could improve on) it’s somewhat concerning the government chose to reengage on their previous commitments to maintain basic EU standards.

There is also areas like security and counter terrorism that require ECJ (legal) oversight.

And as a non-member state, (and governments rejection of the ECJ) UK security agencies will no longer have access to next year. Which regrettably is getting next to no media coverage whatsoever. Please see:

https://ec.europa.eu/home-affairs/what-we-do/policies/borders-and-visas/schengen-information-system_en

https://www.europol.europa.eu/about-europol/european-counter-terrorism-centre-ectc

In regard to strains on public services etc this has had absolutely nothing to do with EU immigration.

As the below MAC report (commissioned by the government in 2018) confirmed:

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/741926/Final_EEA_report.PDF

Please see chapter five which found that EU nationals taxation, and labour/skills etc contributed considerably more to public services than they consumed. Circa
£4.7bn (from 2017) more for example.

Widespread Government cuts to public spending over the last decade has caused untold damage to the provision of public services but immigration has always been the convenient scapegoat. Which resonated with many folk up and down the country. As they shouldered the effects of austerity.

No I blame over population to be honest. I have no problem whatsoever with people coming over to England but our infrastructure can only support so many and I do think we are over populated.

I wonder why so many want to come over here to be honest because according to you its such a bad country full of ignorant racist fools. Strange that dont you think?

I actually work with loads of eastern europeans and am good friends with most of them, by the way they dont like their own countries being in the EU and have told me that if they could have voted they would have voted to leave as well.

Still as this country is going to be so bad now we are leaving (according to you of course) the racists wont have to worry cos all those "foreigners" will be leaving anyway.

But we all know that is not going to happen because like us the people who have made their lives in this country have done it because its a good place to live and it wont change despite your rantings and prophesies of doom and gloom.

Makes me wonder who you people will blame all our problems on once you’ve kicked out all the foreigners.

Single mothers, students and the “loony left” no doubt.

The only thing this crappy country is overpopulated with is undeducted racists.

Ironically the hostile environment implemented by the government, loss of rights, the botched settlement scheme etc has led to tens of thousands of EU nationals leaving the UK.

There are skills shortages in every single sector in the country.

The lastest brain fart of a policy announced today has been roundly criticised by the business community. In particular social care, hospitality, catering, agriculture, healthcare, retail, to name a few because it will decimate their businesses.
