no problem saying hes played well these last few months but what about the previous 2 years? this is where we have gone wrong the last few years offering contracts on the basis of a good run of 8-10 games, whats wrong with extending just for a year at his age?
on the flip side maybe the argument can be made that he's now playing a better midfield with fernandes and fred showing what he can do so in turn making him better?
Still the best DM in the world for me if he stays. Past it and his feet are way too big if he leaves. I don't watch him play.

You cant help thinking this is a strong chance of being likely.
A 1 year deal would have been preferable, and for me it's a position we need to strengthen although it may not be top priority. I'm fairly balanced on this one.
It has to mean the end of pereira and Lingard though, surely? Then we have Pogba and Mata likely to leave meaning we're still short on numbers for attacking/ creative midfielders. Providing there is money invested here, keeping Matic isn't an issue.
I'd have sold him in the summer and even January. I've not been a fan and it's odd we offered him a 2 year contract when we could have extended the current one for a year.
He is the only DM we have and when used correctly he will do well (his form picked up when he's been asked to play as a DM). Back up, and rotation option - and he's OK. We have other players we need rid off first.

Can see maybe keeping him for 1 more year then selling him for a fee. I think we will only bring in one midfielder in the summer along with striker and right winger. Then summer after bring in a DM once Matic leaves. We have other players needing to offload. Lingard, Jones, sanchez and I think Pogba and Smalling will be sold also. I think we will get 150m+ for all that lot.
He has been excellent since December imo. His best spell at the club without doubt

Agree with this, but it's also hard to find a "deep lying playmaker" who is especially good at shielding the defence.
You kind of need Fernandes and Pogba to help out defensively if we're to get a more creative DM type.
Also, people saying Pogba "cannot" play in a 2, didn't see him lift the WC. He just needs somebody as good as Kante next to him.
