End of the day a common cold won't bring the economy grinding to a halt so they won't throw money at it. This has ground the world to a halt so they will definitely figure something out, even if not a vaccine then a remedy that prevents it killing so many.
Once the numbers drop we’ll all go back to work and life will be fairly normal - we’ve bought the time now and those super hospitals will be there and ready for any rising numbers when (some) people get sick again
‘Lockdown until a vaccine’ is impossible. This lockdown was about buying time which has brought us a lot closer to being ready.
I don’t think they can resume, even behind closed doors. It can take 250 odd people to get a game going by the time you have players, security, press, cameramen, coaching staff, owners, etc etc
Plus fans are going to gather at the grounds regardless, so you will need police, fire brigade and ambulances, all of which have better things to do with their time right now.
There will be no sport until public gatherings are allowed again. That will not be in the foreseeable future.
This season is over. Perhaps even most of next.
There’s several companies who already have vaccines entering the testing phase. Companies who’ve developed vaccines for other corona viruses. Their best guess is vaccines rolling out by the end of the year

Isn’t the point that so many different viruses can cause the common cold, and it’s not that harmful, that there isn’t any appetite to create a vaccine for it? Waste of resources.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's a money-making business
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah and medication for cold symptoms is a mega business. Investing money in resources for more dangerous viruses is also a bigger business.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How often have we seen a pandemic lately?, have another think about it.

I don't see a vaccine anytime soon, how long have has there been a vaccine for the common cold? (never)..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Surely that’s because the common cold is harmless and not necessary to be treated by a vaccine
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Are you serious, pharmaceutical companies not jumping on that ?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pharmaceutical companies would make far more money from medications for a common cold than for a vaccine, the numbers wouldn't even be close.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How many medications on the market actually work??, I have doubts about your suggestion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What has that got to do with anything? Folks buy up cold remedies for fun
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The point is nothing works, but yes, people still buy it.

I had a very long lasting cold at the back end of last year. I must have spent a fair bit in hindsight on Lemsip, Covonia, Beechams etc. People will buy these things just in the hope that it provides some relief from symptoms at least.
Eh? I’m saying that a vaccine for the cold isn’t of much interest. As it’s not financially lucrative and so is a waste of resources to invest so much time and money in finding one.
Covid-19 is the opposite. So using the lack of cold vaccine as a reason to question the likelihood of a covid-19 vaccine doesn’t make sense.
The government medical advisors are the best people to listen to for advice. They know a lot more than idiots who are making the situation worse by not complyng.

A lockdown isn't needed for a second wave. Perhaps non essential leaving the house but all business opens.
Lessons surely will be learned and therefore mass testing and isolating will be in place, whilst numbers are low, perhaps an app to help people keep track of it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only realistic way around a second wave , is say for example Southampton has a case , shut it down no cars in no cars out no flights in or out either. Same for any other city. It's the only way. Better for a few thousand to be on lockdown rather than a few million.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No need for whole cities if you're testing and isolating whilst numbers are low, meaning you keep them low as possible whilst the economy gets back on track.
