Zlatan’s overhead against England.

Zidane’s volley in the CL Final.

Bergkamp vs Newcastle as well.

The Ronaldinho goal at Stamford Bridge.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Zlatan’s volley vs England is mad, one in a million hit

Both Ronnie’s and Ronaldo’s overheads are quality goals for me 🤷🏿‍♂️ They give me the wow factor each time

Another overrated goal was George Weah’s where He picked it up in his own box and ran the full length of the pitch and scored

Nobody put a decent challenge in basically giving him a free run

Rooney's had a bit of luck, what with it coming off his shin.

.....

It is physically impossible to hit a ball with that much power off your shin let alone be that accurate.

Tbh. Any goal that is described as a ‘great team goal, goal was scored after X amount of passes’ is underwhelming to me.

What’s that Argentina one, from 2006, against Greece: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rb-BCpa7Zes nah just doesn’t instinctively impress or wow me. I can appreciate goals like that but, put it this way, wouldn’t wanna sit through a compilation of them.

I agree with this one. It was very methodical looking.

Henry’s goal against Spurs when he ran the entire pitch unchallenged. I mean it was great from his point of view but all he did was run in a straight line.

Giggs goal against Arsenal in the FA Cup is probably even more overrated but because of the occasion it’s seen as a great goal

That RVP volley from the Eboue cross is probably the greatest goal in PL history. That, Kasami’s, Cisse vs Cech, Figueroa & Le Tiss where he flicked it over the guy probably make top 5
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If memory serves correct RVP shinned that volley against Charlton. It’s still an incredible goal though. His volley against Everton was better imo

Also Ronaldos overhead vs Juventus is the worst overhead I have ever seen.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow seriously? I suppose Zidane’s volley was also the worst volley you’ve ever seen?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
* looks at profile and recognised that it’s a Utd fan coming to defend his beloved

He literally miss-kicks it and scuffs it into the corner. I can easily name you 10 better overhead kicks in the PL alone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It has nothing to do with being a United fan, many non united fans on this thread alone have agreed that it was an amazing goal. Not to mention you said it was the worst you have ever seen? Ludicrous comment

Miss kicks it and scuffs it into the corner? Am I looking at something completely different??

on the above.

Ronaldo v portsmouth

a) its nothing special par se. but he did spend 10 years trying to redo it and couldn't the main issue is david james messed up and was flat footed and never even moved.

b) you only need look at the celebrations and you have to think. wow utd really fell apart didn't they. young ronney, vidic, fredinand etc etc.

ronaldinho's goal is not that bad

a) it is actually poor chest control that he's let the ball away form himself.

b) its quick reactions to have a hack at i and get something on target so its more about his instant reaction and reflexes than the finish.

ronaldinhos second one v cheslea is nothing special. seen quite a few of those. the build up is nothing to write home about. He is not well closed down (probably through fear) and he can see theres a gap and toe prods it. Again its poor enough defending, keeping and he's done well but its not a moment of genius.

Di canios goal is a bunch of hoofball right up until the money he hits it. his technique and finish was exceptional.

It is very much a case that things need to be touched by something the mere mortal player cannot do. If you put half the prem in di canio's position on soccer saturday they would probably hit the shot, but in a game they would rush it.

As for rooney's over head. Its clearly shinned. Theres nothing wrong with that. It went in he got the pluadits. It wasn't a clean boot contact but the ball flew in so what?

Its like salah scoring v everton. wins him world goal of the year. Take the snow flakes falling out of the slow mo replay and its a fairly standard goal from him.

He did. The volley against Villa was his best for me.

great goals all seem to be about individual brilliance... like a long range shot/volley.

I prefer team goals. None better than this one. Pure class

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5HbmeNKino
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s defo a goal I feel underwhelmed by after reading the praise
----------------------------------------------------------------------
me too. everyone has their own idea what a great goal is. all these goals are good and will impress some people more than others.
its often the circumstances of the goal that makes them great so they don't come across as amazing goals when reviewed years later.

This won't be popular, but Beckham v Wimbledon. Pro footballer kicks football quite far in a straight line. It's a good goal and I do like how it hits the net without bouncing but it never ever made me go 'wow'.

at least he scored unlike the Pele effort that went wide that is regarded as some kinda genius
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha yeah I agree. There's also the other famous Pele miss where he rounds the keeper without touching the ball but still puts it past the post. Never understood why those misses are so celebrated.

Because they were original at the time.
