Campbell, toure, adams, keown and others from arsenal alone are all better than him

He had one or two good seasons but nowhere near a top 10

Any CB that made their name from about 2010 to about 2015/16 shouldn't count. Defending was pisss poor in the league for those years.

I feel VVD may have left it too late to be number 1 even once his career is done. Trophy wise individually and as a team he is so far behind other players. Lets be honest some of these players have had sensational seasons (JT, carvahlo, rio,vidic, vvd) so put someone 1 after just 1 season is ridiculous. He needs to do it for 5 or more to catch up imo.

I agree with this and would add that I think VVD benefits a little in perception because he had such an effect on Liverpool's defence.

Some players in the list replaced someone excellent or improved a defence by a small margin - VVD is seen as the difference between Liverpool as also rans and as title winners.

He's a fantastic player, no doubt, but held a bit too high by some when compared to others imo.

Well yes, we know what you think about recent times - you think that Gerrard is the best player this century aside from Messi and Ronaldo.
