Was the same with the school, Ginger. Tiny refund in the scale of things offered for the final term. Form with a tick box to donate it to bursaries but no tick for any other option so submit no response to get your refund. I've been a benefactor to their appeals as they went through school but now they are done it is money better going to the kids as they've missed out.

We may be having a battle with our eldest's school. Money paid towards a trip to the south of France that didn't happen - for obvious reasons.

A teacher decided to cancel it before the company announced cancellations as they felt it would be dangerous to go.

However, as a result of them cancelling within a few months of departure it invokes something like a 30% deposit loss. The company subsequently cancelled trips of their own accord as everyone expected but this teacher has cost parents of the school a hell of a lot of money in total

Yep

We didn't even get offered a refund although I think the day attendees were offered about 10%.

Mind you there were some parents who were just completely unreasonable in it all. Telling the school they weren't going to pay as they would home teach and then demanding the school assess all their work and set it towards their grades!

It's looking grim for when he starts uni too. They've already indicated that all lectures will be on line "as and when lecturers are available". No reduction in fees. We also signed up to hall residence which we will have to pay whether he has to be there or not. And that includes the meal packages which he probably won't even be there to benefit from.

Discount? Not on your nelly.

Yup, we are 4 figures down on a deposit for a Uganda trip. Still hope.

Is he still coming up here? I thought the unis here were all hedging their bets on lectures but that's based on what miss tells me?

That's a difficult one but nonetheless they shouldn't have cancelled without some discussion first as I'm sure most people would advise to wait until the company/airline cancelled which would mean a full refund.

Worse one was my mate whose eldest daughter works in his business. He'd got her to sort out the family holiday (5 of them) to travel around the US for almost a month. Business class the lot.

We were down the Thursday night before the last Cheltenham meet and were all out for a pub meal when she piped up "Dad; I've cancelled our holidays as we won't be going anyway" (they were due to go in late April).

They all seemed ok until I said they'd lose all their money. Stunned silence......

And the gap will get wider between those who can through this relatively unscathed and those who can't

Yip agree on that

We have put away more than expected plus a considerable saving on fuel, lunches, kids going out etc etc

Our holiday hasn't been cancelled yet but if it does we expect to be offered a credit plus 20% or a full refund. By taking the credit and rebooking for next year we can then put the money we would have spent on next years holiday towards the garden and make it somewhere we'd actually spend time in.

It's easy to sit here and see the positives when I haven't been affected financially though, there are many people struggling and taking unpaid leave to get through it and need to get back to work safely soon

It's a sobering thought when you realise how much you were spending every month on drink and genetal socialising. Tbh, I've been out every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for years. That's more than £100 A week on taxis and trains alone. Mental.

I couldn't give a feck if the pubs and restaurants never re-open. We don't need them. Just need to get used to house parties again.

Exactly this. We were going through £2-3k a month on travelling, hotels, meals, drinks etc etc.

Who wants to go into a sanitised pub or restaurant where you sit in a cordoned off booth and separated from the general chatting to others and socialising?

We've been enjoying that Saturday night "treat" of having a quiet day with loads of walking and exercising before relaxing with a good take away and a decent movie.

We were just talking about it the other day and both agreed that when they do reopen we will have no interest at all. I think we will do more short breaks away with each other, family and friends and enjoy the outdoor café culture abroad in the sunshine where we can get space and still feel like we are socialising.

Scotland I'm afraid does not have a café culture and as for staying in hotels where you won't be able to stand at the bar for a pint with your mates; fwck that.

You probably don't even know this and I will say no more however, the visitor * to the Uni of Nottingham is a certain Jacob Rees-Mogg!

* A visitor, in English and Welsh law and history, is an overseer of an autonomous ecclesiastical or eleemosynary institution, often a charitable institution set up for the perpetual distribution of the founder's alms and bounty, who can intervene in the internal affairs of that institution. Those with such visitors are mainly cathedrals, chapels, schools, colleges, universities, and hospitals.

I am so bored now I have started making my own cider and wine, I simply wont need pubs, or off-licences

I'm feeling good about having gone 2 days bev free. Started the lockdown well but it got crazy for a spell there. Thankfully got a major delivery just prior to lockdown so not feeling the pain in the pocket until I have to re-stock.

I've had the odd beer when cutting the grass or a couple of cocktails with the mrs.

tbh I find it quite cringe when I see people acting like they are mad lockdown alcoholics

people with kids in the house bragging about being phished every night, good for you.
