The pride of footballers would want to win the game however that would certainly be the best case scenario and one that could very likely happen.

However if we were in that scenario and it was a draw going into the last 10-20 mins I could certainly see a drop off

Don’t forget however Chelsea have two extremely tough games to finish off their season

is there any difference between 3rd and 4th place? in terms of qualifying rounds etc?

if not, i would absolute love this scenario. Would thoroughly enjoy 90 mins of passing about in defence

As I understand it, no.

I do think both teams would go for it for the first hour or so but after that I do think caution would take over. Neither team would need to risk anything. Doesn't say neither team wouldn't score but the longer the game went on the more likely it would be both would be happy to see it out.

I would hate to see that happen though and it'd make for a nerve wracking last few minutes as a silly mistake or a rocket goal could change things drastically.

We have to go for the win. Regardless.

I think we’d want 3rd tbh and go for the win, Ole wouldn’t be about going for a draw. Also too risky unless it was genuinely fixed as we could always fck up and let Vardy in with a chance.

It would be a cagey match, regardless of any ambition for 3rd for either team.

If either team attack too much, they can be picked off on the counter... So both will sit back and see what happens.

I can't remember the season, but I remember United needing a point against Blackburn to win the league whilst Blackburn needed a point to stay up. United started as though they were ready to play out a nil nil. Blackburn didn't get the memo and scored an early goal. United immediately hit back.
The rest of the game was played by United's back 4

We drew 1-1 in 2011 with a late Rooney pen but I'm sure Blackburn needed another result as well after that to be safe.

We sent them down with a 0-0 in 1999 I also recall.

Don’t 4th place have to play a qualifying round?

posted on 17/7/20

I reckon we'd agree to it and then Vardy would snatch a winner in the 88th minute.

I don’t think Leicester will beat Spurs. They are a bit depleted and Spurs have found a bit of form so will still want 6th.

My partners grandparents are avid United fans, the rest of her family - Chelsea and little ol me: Leicester. Should be a fun weekend...

I don't think so either; but it is possible with some luck and I figured I'd ask the hypothetical.

I think the reality is that both teams would set out to win the game, but as others have suggested, the impetus and desire to win it might wane if it’s level with 10 to go.

You might get the weird situation where the teams are happy just to pass it about for the last minute.

However I can’t see ya bearing spurs and I think Liverpool are on the beach so all of this is probably pointless.

Oh if we’d just beat blooming Bournemouth!!!!!

I think we will beat Spurs 4-1.
Done.

I recall a game in the World Cup where both teams only needed a draw. It was blatant and no intent to move the ball forward...... There was a lot of booing.

Can not recall the teams, maybe Austria was one of them? Play for the win no matter what!

this is why final matches are now played simultaneously.

wonder what the PL regulations say, if anything, about teams playing out a draw? in practice, unless you really do resort to knocking it back and forth in the centre circle for 90 minutes, how easy is it to do completely safely?

the most hilarious scenario - even more so than a dodgy penatly to united - would be united accidentally scoring after 92 minutes, via a huge deflection, and then allowing leicester to score, unopposed, to guarantee CL football for both. whilst chelsea win 14-0, a plucky effort, but not quite enough lads.

I also recall we let Forest score first via their keeper in a Cup replay. I think we won 1-3?

Was it Jack Cork whom had a heart attack at half time with Forest leading 0-1?
