The thing is that Leno’s performances have been massively overrated due to the amount of shots he’s faced and dealt with under Emery.

He has so many mistakes in him and our set piece record completely deteriorated with him in goal.

Relax, Leno is a quality keeper and wasn't he one of the nominees for our player of the season recently too?

Leno has yet to enjoy the opportunity to play behind a more organised structured defence which Martinez did have and Leno is still only 28 himself and will continue to develop and improve, don't you think if Arteta and the Goal Keeping Coach(es) wanted Martinez to stay and be #1 then Leno would be the one sold?

yep. he is weak at corners, crosses and free kicks. which is 90% of a PL keepers job. the defence looks so shaky when he is in goal compared to Emi. club can go fak itself

Absolute rubbish. Just because you rate Emi over Leno, which is fair enough, doesn't mean you have to make up stuff to support your opinion. Leno has been a fantastic signing and it's not his fault the defence in front of him has allowed so many shots at goal. The fact he's got such great stats just shows how well he has done and how talented he is.

I love Emi but he's played about a dozen games so to say he's so much better than the experienced Leno is crazy. Come back to me next year when Emi has had a full season for a fairer comparison

Lol @ Leno being nominated for ARSENAL player of the year. Apart from Auba, who else was there to nominate?

I’m not saying he’s a bad keeper or anything but his performances have been massively overrated, mostly by pundits who push the narrative that we would have been relegated without Auba and Leno at both ends of the pitch.

Leno was a big part of the structurally poor defense. A keeper that flaps at crosses, fumbles balls, plays his defenders under pressure with his dodgy distribution and parries/punches everything that comes his way IS going to cause panic. And panic leads to a loss of structure.

This sale is just gonna pissss Arsenal fans off. If Emi starts well at Villa and Leno comes up with another of his classic brain farts, there is going to be massive pressure put on him, which isn’t going to help at all.

The best players thrive off competition, at Arsenal we seem to sell the competitors. It has to be Leno or Martinez, or it has to be Bellerin or AMN. Will we end up debating which of Saka or Martinelli should be sold next Summer?

United have De Gea, Henderson and Romero in goal and we can’t even have 1 season of 2 decent goalkeepers vying for the starting place.

“Leno has been a fantastic signing and it's not his fault the defence in front of him has allowed so many shots at goal.”

Since join Leno has made 7 errors leading directly to goals. Only Pickford, De Gea and Dubravka have made more.

#1 Martinez refused to sign a new contract with us because he was not willing to fight for the place with Leno.

#2 Don't see what's to "Lol" about a player performing so well they were amongst our two best players.

#2 You are MASSIVELY over-exaggerating Leno's weaknesses/mistakes, they were few and far between.

#3 "another of his classic brain farts" - give me strength

End of the day, I trust Arteta's decision on this, if he wanted to keep Martinez > Leno, he would, Leno would be sold.

You are looking at a very small sample size for Martinez and a much bigger sample size for Leno, Martinez has failed badly at times in the past, it hasn't all been like his performances when he came in at the end of last season.

What is this rubbish about Emi having to fight for his spot? It IS his spot. He is number one. He like any other keeper will have to fight to keep his place, but he has already proven himself good enough to start the season as number 1, which he did against Liverpool 2 weeks ago (and put in yet another great performance).

posted on 11/9/20

Nah, sorry the No1 spot is Leno's. Martinez done well when he covered, but Leno is still better for me. And as mentioned earlier, people are comparing 15 games with a structured defence, against Leno's 62 games with a very suspect defence in front of him. We'll be fine if Martinez goes, 100%.

Really annoyed with this.

Emi has been immense. His catching is unreal. Don't think there is another keeper in the league with his catching ability

there is a reason why Auba said "he is the best" to martinez in the interview after the FA cup final. Our captain and best player telling it how it is, yet the leno fangirls think Leno is still better?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
don't be an insulting tw*t.
Auba said something about Martinez so now we must keep him forever and ever, Auba isn't the manager, goal keeping coach, etc, i trust the opinion of those guys more than our player.

Aye let’s trust the club hierarchy that have led us to a 4th consecutive Europa League campaign and the lofty heights of 8th. Who are we to question them, they clearly know best.

of course you can question them, but the fact your crying about a back up goal keeper, who was at Reading last year, being sold is a bit weird. And your talking pre Arteta, Pre Edu, before the internal system changes. this year is a whole different ball game, come back to me at the end of this year with your BS and see if it is still relevent.

so you wouldnt be gutted if we sold Martinelly then? just last year he was playing in some backwater in brazil banging them in against farmers.

time to get rid I say

Totally different scenario and you know it, comparing a 19 yr old forward with a 28 yr old back up GK.

We are planning to replace him with a Championship keeper ffs No doubt you will be applauding the signing of Raya should it happen.

I swear I just can’t with some Arsenal fans. They deserve the mediocrity they are getting.

you should be picked on your performances, not your total club history then.

emi has reached a higher standard in 15 games than leno has done in his whole career.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's your opinion, i highly disagree with it though..comparing 15 games, with no fans etc at the tail end of the season to 62 games with fans, different (worse) manager, defence, no structure etc is not a fair comparison imo.
