He played as a DM for Leicester and in his first season at Chelsea. That’s when he was rated among the best players in the world on his position
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He never played as a DM for Chelsea under Conte or Sarri. People are clueless about him. .

Or Leicester

He's played DM for France, few times for Conte before he switched to 343, and a couple times for Lampard. That's it.

I think we have to remember that Conte played midfielders in midfield - a concept lost at Chelsea at the moment. Kante was always the midfielder who stayed in position and therefore made a lot of interceptions. But we had structure which allowed him to excel.

At present, we don't have a visible midfield - our players are all well advanced or far too deep, allowing teams to advance rapidly when we lose the ball and putting us on the back foot too clearly. Our possession is always in front of our own goal and we invite teams to press us and win the ball and basically be through on goal with no effort.

Also, this idea of players adapting to positions - yes, in an ideal world, but if you are spending huge amounts on fees and wages, then you have to use the player's skills to the best of his ability otherwise it's a nonsense.

Kante as he gets older is going to evolve into a sitting DM anyway. People are acting as if he doesn't have the attributes to play in that role, but he does!

It benefits everyone. It benefits the team because it makes us stronger defensively. It benefits Kante because it gives him a defined role in the team which he doesn't have otherwise and which I think he's capable of playing to a World Class level. You're judging how well Kante would play as a sitting DM based on a few games here and there in that position and the rest of games he's played in a different position. Obviously if he's playing in a different position, he's not going to be playing like a sitting DM. But that doesn't say anything about whether he could play as a sitting DM or not. The fact is you don't know how Kante would do in that position if he played there long term, but I don't see any quality he lacks which would mean he couldn't play that role.

Doesn’t change the fact that previously it hasn’t been his position despite people who don’t watch chelsea trying to tell us as muchc

I expect fans of other teams to not understand Kante's role but not paid pundit's that are ex pro's. There have been times when I wished Kante would just sit in front of the back four and protect them but that is not his role. He is a central midfielder that plays box to box and likes to intercept the ball. Can he play the Makelele role? Doubtful but remains to be seen if he's played there as he gets older. I'm not sure he has the mindset to sit so deep.

I feel like the times that kante has played as a sitting midfielder he's had certain limitations exposed

He rarely has a stinker but he is certainly betting at sniffing out and intercepting danger than reacting to it.

Whilst at Chelsea he has generally been the first out to the ball and pushing up from corners we defend, he’s also first to stop counter attacks from corners we attack.

If he were to get injured again (hopefully not) it'll be interesting to see who we play in his place & how we set up
