i'm not going to sit here and pretend like i was supporting rangers in the uefa cup final, f...ing nightmare for me if you guys won that.

i never really got on board with the "anti football" stuff though, you had novo and daily in your team against much better teams.

play to your strength, all well being a purist but nobody likes losing.

Devastating news.

Walter was one of those guys who you thought would be around forever he was made of such strong stuff.

His playing style wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but his achievements couldn’t be argued with. A true legend of the game up there with some of the best we have ever seen.

Really gutted for his family, some of whom are local to me. A real family man who was still regularly picking up the grand kids from school pre Covid.

Worth saying what a tremendous coach he was as well. Obviously his achievements at Rangers will be what he will be remembered for, but he was also a tremendous coach at United under Jim McLean and was an important figure in helping the club win the league and compete in Europe.

Yep, agreed and with Man United.

Sad day for Scottish football as another giant of our game passes. Wrung the absolute most out of those players in his second stint as Gers manager, and was unlucky not to get Scotland to a major finals. Was a constant thorn in Celtic's side, but respect where it is most certainly due.

You should mate. Seems like a daft thing to do but you'll regret it if you don't.

Really sad news. I had huge respect for him carrying Tommy Burns coffin and like someone said previously he led by example.

RIP Walter.

Aside from him being a fantastic manager, what i loved about Walter was the way he conducted himself.

An absolute class act. Cant recall him being nothing but respectful win or lose.

Growing up he basically shaped my love for football with those Rangers teams of the 90s.

About the only man who could handle Paul Gascoigne too 😂 and arguably squeezed the very best out of him.

Like Tommy Burns, a true legend of Scottish football, who just oozed class.

Just listening to Ally McCoists words about Walter on Sky Sports News there and I'm in bits

Walter always will be The Gaffer, Our Gaffer
He was a father figure at our club
He commanded huge respect, yet was one of the most humble and down to earth men you could ever meet

At Rangers, he brought nothing but success

With Scotland, he brought us out from under the cloud of the Vogts era and we could hold our heads high again

He came back to Rangers, and took us to a European final, something I thought I'd never see in my lifetime

Walter was Mr Rangers, and he epitomised everything good about our club.....he will be sorely missed, and I am very emotional upon hearing the news this morning

RIP Walter

tell u what i quite like, and if it sounds bad i apologise as it's certainly not my intention.

i like how in house this was kept, u always end up with whatsapp groups, twitter, some cvnt close to the family telling someone and not respecting the privacy of it.

i heard the odd wee rumour but there was never an overload about it, thats nice.

Saddest I've been for someone I've never met passing. But in a strange way I felt I knew him or at least knew he was a gentleman and deserved respect. Properly good at what he did and I think it's hard to sum up what he meant to Rangers. But I think even with nine in a row his second stint might have been more impressive

Rip to him. Won't soon be forgotten in Scottish football.

Suppose it sums his dominance that I hated him when he was Rangers manager.

A sad loss to Rangers and Scottish football.
RIP Walter.
