Looks like a reaction to the backlash rather than anything else. There are 5 other players who got an exemption granted and I don't see any furore about their participation.

Yes because that's a remotely comparable situation. Well done.
You could argue that the reasons for deportation are political, but I think Nadal says it best - Djokovic could be playing at the Aussie open without any problems if he wanted to - the rules have been clear for months.
Djokovic has done himself no favours being so vocal on his standpoint and for his irresponsible part in that shambles of a tournament in 2020 either.

Ok. Well then it's pure discrimination because he was anonymously and independently granted a medical exemption which they seem to have thrown out the window because of public backlash despite 6 other players being granted the same exemption.
You don't need to agree with Djokovic to realise how wrong this situation is and how bad a precedent it sets.

I think that's what they are claiming now.
They had to apply for an exemption which did not require a medical certificate - given he's one of the world's fittest athletes
It was only when they actually confirmed that he would need a medical exemption that he was refused entry imho.

Fair for Australia to say he’s not exempt, but they should have taken that stance in first place. All seems very reactionary.
If I was Australian I’d also be raging at rich and famous being let into the country without vaccine when everyone else has been in lockdown.

Yes, the Tennis authorities were trying to get him in to the tournament via an exemption he shouldn't have had.
It was only the furore that caused the Government to re-check his exemption and surprise, surprise he didn't have the right one.

Ok. Well then it's pure discrimination because he was anonymously and independently granted a medical exemption which they seem to have thrown out the window because of public backlash despite 6 other players being granted the same exemption.
You don't need to agree with Djokovic to realise how wrong this situation is and how bad a precedent it sets.

His medical exemption was approved by both the state and Tennis Australia independently and anonymously.
Looks like a reaction to the backlash rather than anything else. There are 5 other players who got an exemption granted and I don't see any furore about their participation.

I don't think it was a feck up.
I think that's what they are claiming now.
They had to apply for an exemption which did not require a medical certificate - given he's one of the world's fittest athletes
It was only when they actually confirmed that he would need a medical exemption that he was refused entry imho.

All seems blown out of proportion due to Australia’s mismanagement. Should have simply never granted him exemption.
Djokovic’s stand point is fair, it’s very highly unlikely he would have serious illness even without vaccine. And obv vaccine has had no impact on spread of recent variants. He also received approval for exemption from two medical boards.
Fair for Australia to say he’s not exempt, but they should have taken that stance in first place. All seems very reactionary.
If I was Australian I’d also be raging at rich and famous being let into the country without vaccine when everyone else has been in lockdown.

Yes, the Tennis authorities were trying to get him in to the tournament via an exemption he shouldn't have had.
It was only the furore that caused the Government to re-check his exemption and surprise, surprise he didn't have the right one.
