Why do people use this cliched argument? Armies exist for a reason. To fight wars. If the time came and there was a reason to fight, you don’t have to sign up yourself to be in favour of a nation going to war. No one wants a war and it should always be the last resort. But if that last resort appeared (like to stop a genocide for example) it’s not wrong to ask an army to go fight a war. You don’t have to volunteer yourself.

Fair points, but his accusations of support for KGB, Putin and his invasion tend to ruin debate....and if you are not prepared to join up and fight, but are willing to let others do so, that is open to question, imo.

I’ve only advocated boots on the ground (and tbh I wouldn’t even advocate that, it would first be a no fly zone) if there was a certain red line crossed. I’ve maintained that how the strategy is currently going is fine. Russia are being embarrassed and the world has united in a way previously thought unlikely.

I have plenty of family in Europe and Australia has sacrificed hundreds of thousands of lives for British wars so I know the difficult choices that are made at times like these.
Again, I’m not at all advocating for any troops to be on the ground now. Only if certain lines are crossed. I’ve said chemical weapons, MU52 has said a tactical nuke, perhaps others have different red lines - or none at all. But if no one steps in once Putin does cross those lines it emboldens him to keep pushing the boundaries ajd before you know it you may well have wished you’d stood up to him before it got too bad.

Why do people use this cliched argument? Armies exist for a reason. To fight wars. If the time came and there was a reason to fight, you don’t have to sign up yourself to be in favour of a nation going to war. No one wants a war and it should always be the last resort. But if that last resort appeared (like to stop a genocide for example) it’s not wrong to ask an army to go fight a war. You don’t have to volunteer yourself.

By all accounts, Ukraine army and people are resisting well and Putin's plans are not succeeding, so a is not lost, according to Zelensky and NATO and intelligence experts.

Yes, I understand that if a Russian plane is shot down it massively raises the threat of a hot war but there’s every chance - in fact the logical conclusion would be that Russia back down as their bluff will have been called.

With respect, I am quoting what NATO and western leaders say over and over; that they will not put planes in Ukrainian airspace, as Ukraine is not in NATO, and putting fighters up there would lead to escalation and WW3 with Russia, making matters worse in Ukraine and in Europe.
War crimes are being committed now, according to Ukrainian and international observers, be it attacks on civilian targets, hospitals, etc....even your hated GB news report this.
Second guessing that Putin would back down, as his bluff had been called with NATO jets, is a Massive assumption, that could be disastrous, frankly.

Why do people use this cliched argument? Armies exist for a reason. To fight wars. If the time came and there was a reason to fight, you don’t have to sign up yourself to be in favour of a nation going to war. No one wants a war and it should always be the last resort. But if that last resort appeared (like to stop a genocide for example) it’s not wrong to ask an army to go fight a war. You don’t have to volunteer yourself.

I have plenty of family in Europe and Australia has sacrificed hundreds of thousands of lives for British wars so I know the difficult choices that are made at times like these.
Again, I’m not at all advocating for any troops to be on the ground now. Only if certain lines are crossed. I’ve said chemical weapons, MU52 has said a tactical nuke, perhaps others have different red lines - or none at all. But if no one steps in once Putin does cross those lines it emboldens him to keep pushing the boundaries ajd before you know it you may well have wished you’d stood up to him before it got too bad.

By all accounts, Ukraine army and people are resisting well and Putin's plans are not succeeding, so a is not lost, according to Zelensky and NATO and intelligence experts.
Opposition to the war in Rusia and sanctions will hit the Kremlin regime, so time for calm heads, not warmongering battlecries.

No, it doesn’t mean WW3. It means an escalation. It doesn’t instantly start a hot war that Russia cannot win. It’s Ukrainian airspace (and I’m using the words of an ex NATO supreme commander). NATO aircraft have every right to be there.
Yes, I understand that if a Russian plane is shot down it massively raises the threat of a hot war but there’s every chance - in fact the logical conclusion would be that Russia back down as their bluff will have been called.
I’m not suggesting there is a no fly zone now as the risk/reward is too low as the war is going well from a Ukrainian perspective. But if war crimes were being committed I would support a no fly zone and then see just how serious Putin is.

No, it doesn’t mean WW3. It means an escalation. It doesn’t instantly start a hot war that Russia cannot win. It’s Ukrainian airspace (and I’m using the words of an ex NATO supreme commander). NATO aircraft have every right to be there.
Yes, I understand that if a Russian plane is shot down it massively raises the threat of a hot war but there’s every chance - in fact the logical conclusion would be that Russia back down as their bluff will have been called.
I’m not suggesting there is a no fly zone now as the risk/reward is too low as the war is going well from a Ukrainian perspective. But if war crimes were being committed I would support a no fly zone and then see just how serious Putin is.

With respect, I am quoting what NATO and western leaders say over and over; that they will not put planes in Ukrainian airspace, as Ukraine is not in NATO, and putting fighters up there would lead to escalation and WW3 with Russia, making matters worse in Ukraine and in Europe.
War crimes are being committed now, according to Ukrainian and international observers, be it attacks on civilian targets, hospitals, etc....even your hated GB news report this.
Second guessing that Putin would back down, as his bluff had been called with NATO jets, is a Massive assumption, that could be disastrous, frankly.
