Absolutely which is a shame to watch European teams getting help again and again. France are actually taking it to another level by playing mostly French born African players and England, Germany and Portugal are following suit at least Spain and Italy compete with their own folks.

I’d go this for 2026 (though 3 concacaf will be automatic so not sure how it’ll work)

16 Europe
1 Oceania
8 Asian
10 South American

Considering how easy international travel has become, they could just have a preliminary phase or two to weed out the minnows and then worldwide qualifying groups.

If the European-based South American and Asian players can hack the travel, then so can the Europeans.

It would be a lot more fun to see Germany taking on Venezuela, Japan v Canada, or Burkina Faso v Australia, than all the samey stuff we get in every qualifying phase.

What FIFA needs to do is set up a preliminary group stage before the main groups and allow 2 groups of solely African teams and 2 groups of Asian teams.

The winners from those groups can progress into the main groups and the competition can continue as normal. It isn’t hard to do but because FIFA hates Africa they will deny the opportunity for more African teams to be in the World Cup which increases the chance for them to win it and also stop England and France stealing African players

Whatever the opinion of the standard, it’s called a World Cup. We get to see a clash of cultures and philosophy, and sometimes the shocks happen right.
That’s the beauty of this great game… I don’t want to see a World Cup Super League.

I would reverse that. Have the big nations largely fight off against each other, ie no seeding. That would make it much more interesting in qualifying

They should just make qualifying a time zone thing.

All the americas, north and south playing for ten slots.

Europe combining with Africa would give Europe more places at the world cup as well.

@itsonlyagame, I’d love worldwide style qualifying. That would be really good, though viewing times would be mental and clubs would moan like hell
