Referees are getting lazy now they have VAR to help them and VAR reviewers are still getting it wrong. (I said this would happen as it still does in the lNFL despite them having it for over 20 years)’

VC is right, refs are relying on VAR but VAR is not there to make decisions, it’s there to pick up “clear and obvious” errors.

Today is a clear example, the ref had the opportunity to look at the Saka “foul” a second time, why wasn’t he afforded the option to look at the Elanga one?

Why wouldn’t any ref want a look at that handball?

Another one that springs to mind is the Burnley game, the Pogba foul when we went 2-0 up. It is astounding that the linesman can make that call for such a soft foul when the official was letting Burnley get away with much harder tackles throughout.

VAR calling the ref to the screen is basically saying to the ref 'you got it wrong/missed it, we are giving you the chance to change your decision'. And they almost always do.

I agree with everyone here. We need to take the rugby approach and mic them up.

Wire them up. It's the only way to get coherence and consistency out of them.

Another problem, the ref is under pressure to make the call in that situation. It’s expected than when they review the decision they overturn it, because that’s VARs view.

Managers should be allowed to challenge one incorrect VAR decision per match.

Their performance should be reviewed and the public should be able to see the results.

I’ve always felt refs should be allowed to interview post match to explain their decisions too, it’s a hard job and may provide a little more empathy from fans.

Would like to see ex pros in the VAR booth. Still wouldn’t be perfect but an improvement as long as they had a higher IQ than Matt Le Tissier

The ones with a better IQ do. The referees are supposed to know the rules but you could have fooled me

I doubt that will change a decision as VAR has already made it.

I think what you mean is that managers should be allowed to challenge an on field call by the ref that VAR didn’t look at.

I am not even sure VAR looked at the Elanga one. If it did you have to ask why the Arsenal penalty was given as they were similar offenses.

Did you see Arsenals penalty against Chelsea? How can anyone look at that and give it?

I prefer the old days when you would moan in the pub after the game and lament how we were robbed by the refs crap decision made in real time, rather than the current situation where you now moan that we we robbed by a dodgy VAR call even after a team of refs watched it in a hut at Heathrow Airport at least 36 times on TV and in slow motion, from 15 angles.

What BS editing was that. Alan shearer and Wright with some crap takes. They making out we got outplayed by Arsenal.
I mean come on…. So blatant with the Man Utd hate!

Didn’t watch as expected it I won’t normally defend our team of w@nkers but today we were robbed by the officials and Arsenal were favoured and extremely lucky

There’s a lot of logic behind wiring up the refs. A whole lot of logic. And also with interviewing the refs after the game. Would appease fans, create empathy, more respect for the referee, it is working in other sports, loads of good stuff.

So why wouldn’t they? Maybe to protect the ref’s identity? Nah, their mug is always being shown. Give them a stig mask if they want that.

So, what then? Seems to me, looking
outside of box for a minute, it's a control thing.

By making the lines very blurry, not just offside lines, but all this "clear and obvious" or "can only get involved for penalties and reds" BS is basically saying we now have a ref and his assistants AND a team of officials to hide behind.

Some of the decisions are inexplicable; the interviews would be hilarious with the ref getting tripped up every two minutes. Hence they don’t do them, IMO

Agree with all of that. Millimetre offsides drive me nuts. I seriously doubt the technology and the lines are that accurate. In rugby league the reviews are well done, with much better information in the stadium. Yesterday at City’s game there was a good 2 minutes delay for apparently a penalty review. No one knew why. Turned out there was no problem with the pen, just the ref couldn’t hear the var official. It really is poor.
