I remember one of the kids in my school. No eyes Nick we used to call him. The teacher was a bit of a character as they all were back in the day, it was just the way it was. Every morning break the teacher would take him into his cupboard and shaag his eye sockets until he eventually technically had a lobotomy on both sides of the brain. Happiest kid in school was Nick. Never complained. These days kids are forced to learn about global issues and you know what? They are miserable. Things were better in my day as kids were just happier. Yes the methods were different but it's just the way it was.

Had a town here in Canada burn to the ground last summer when temps hit close to 50, absolutely concerning and a current concern, not something we can brush off for a few generations down the line.

As others have said though, what can you really do on an individual level? I try to live my life on a way that fits my values, but it's honestly more about not wanting to be a hypocrite than actually believing I'm making any realistic change.

I’ve said this before, but the answer to global warming is that we need to kill more whales.

In short, whales are massive harvesters of carbon, approximately 33 tons per whale (for reference a tree averages 48lbs). When a whale dies it sinks to the bottom of the ocean and deposits all that carbon into the sea bed, thus taking it out of the atmosphere. They stimulate the growth of phytoplankton via their excrement and their corpses, which also absorb huge amounts of carbon.

Large scale whaling however has impacted the benefits of whales to the planet, because their corpses are taken away for commercial purposes rather than being allow to sink, and so all the carbon is released back into the atmosphere.

So the solution is simple. We need to ban commercial whaling, breed more whales - as many as possible, place carbon monitors on them so that when they reach their peak carbon absorption level we can harpoon them and allow their bodies to sink. The more whales we breed and kill, the better off we’ll all be.

33 tons per whale? Wow Considering the largest whales weigh in at 20 tons.
Bet you could beat a whale in a fight though.

What's worse global warming or racism?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Racism is far worse. Global warming wouldn’t even be an issue if it weren’t for backward, no-mark countries like China and Africa.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Countries like Africa? I'll let you think that one over.

We’ve had hotter drier periods than this, many many times.

It’s time we left the planet to do what it’s done for millions of years
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Exterminating the human race is an extreme solution, but it would be effective to remove humans from the situation and let the planet do what its previously done.

I'm good with doing a black mirror style god thing on this. I remember growing up and was forced to go to church and noticed loads of tories there. Apparently they were there to ask forgiveness from God for being bad people every day. But to their convenience God didn't actually exist so they just got to feel better about themselves for being bad people with no consequences.

But imagine there was someone or something that held you accountable. Like some sort of AI. Totally doable.

Yeah, and the first thing the planet will do is make it unsustainable for human existence

A real concern or just a load of woke nonsense?

It's far easier to change an opinion than it is to change a climate.

We’ve had 5 periods of extinction and nothing we do will change a 6th, it will happen at some point and it makes you wonder why we’re financially paying for these ideas the government cook up. But it easy for me to say that, life as we know it won’t end in my time

It's like that time I was in court for murder and I argued to the judge that the person was going to die at some point anyway so what did it matter that I tortured them and gave them a horrific death sooner than would have been the case? They would have died anyway!

Dinosaurs lived on earth for around 165 million years, whilst in one form or another humans have been around for around six million. It’s only our own ignorance and arrogance that’s makes us think we’re entitled to be around forever.
